Hi,

we spoke before about many Fiat projects, but I open this topic to continue talking
about more Fiat Projects.

the G.4 was a two seat light aircraft project, powered by one 760 hp Fiat A.6 R
engine,I hope we get a more unknown Fiat G series projects.

Re: Fiat Projects

As I read that page, the G.4 was a 2-seat fighter -- in any case, 760 hp is a lot of power for a light aircraft!

Does anyone know the Fiat A.26R engine? Perhaps an evolution of the A.22R V-12?

Re: Fiat Projects

Thank you my dear Apophenia for your explanation.

Re: Fiat Projects

The G.12 for the Aegean islands was meant as an improved version of the G.12, especially conceived for transport over the Aegean sea where these Fiat aircraft were used a lot. The aircraft would have carried seven passengers sitting face-to-face and 1.3 ton of freight dispatched within holds of different capacities that were laid out so as to not upset the aircraft's centering once loaded. An onboard equipment for bad weather landings was also planned. It would have been powered by 840 hp engines of the A 74 RC42 type.

The G.12S could have been the first version with a dorsal Lanciani turret and two machine-guns in portholes (the concept was reused later on). Looking like the GA, this trimotor would have been powered by Alfa Romeo engines, the central engine having a feeding pipe with 180 liters of 100-octane gasoline for starting and taking off. The pilots' seats would have been armored and the aircraft could have carried four passengers with much comfort and ultramodern navigation equipment.

The G.12TB was to be a paratrooper transport. Although mentioned in Fiat manuals in May 1942, this machine was probably an answer to October 1941 Ministry specifications. With its Fiat A 74 RC42 engines it could have carried quite a heavy load for the time: 24 paratroopers plus their jump leader and two crewmen for maneuvers up to 1700 kms range; or 24 fuel containers and three crewmen for airdrops up to 1650 kms range; or 4 DB 601 engines; or three 2190-kg torpedoes. It would have used a 12.7-caliber Isotta Fraschini dorsal turret with 350-shot capacity, and a ventral cargo hold.

The G.12TP was a projected night bomber whose existence was mentioned at Fiat in May 1942. Two variants powered by A 74 engines were considered: one would have carried 3.2 tons of bombs and the other only 1 ton. Gabrielli claims that the ventral hold was tested during the war. The two versions would have been equipped with Lanciani F Delta dorsal turrets with a 350-shot 12.7-caliber machine gun and two 500-shot 7.7-caliber ones on the sides. Some plans show a shooting position for a soldier lying prone but the technical description doesn't mention it. The fuselage was fitted with windows and both the pilot's seat and the tanks would have been armored. An order for 30 machines was placed but then cancelled while the cutting of metal sheets had already started.

The G.12TPB would have been similar to the above version and carried 1620 kg of bombs, but could also have carried paratroopers. It would have flown a little faster too, at 380 kms/h.

the names of the files could be misleading. AFAIK, the AS-1 and the AS-2 were different designs.
Here are photos showing differences.

Well, that's exactly why I put underscore signs before the numbers, because that sign is NEVER used in aircraft designations!

Hi,

here is a great report,the Fiat CR.44 was a contra-rotating fighter/
bomber Project with A.44 engine, derivative BR.44 twin engined
medium bomber Project, the FR.23 night fighter twin engined Project
also fitted with A.44 motor, and available in four variants,Model A,
B,C & D.

The R.23 was a twin engined fighter & dive and torpedo bomber
Project,also a reference to Fiat BR.22,BR.26 and BR.30 bomber
Projects,and a mock-up to BR.25 bomber Project.

Hi! Fiat G.57.
http://www.aviarmor.net/aww2/projects/ita/fiat_g57.htm
Auto translation
One of the latest projects deal FIAT Division prior to the signing of the Armistice in September 1943 became fighter-torpedo under the brand symbol (G). 57. Design team under the direction of g. Gabrielli this time decided to, as they say, to get back to basics, and instead of the usual row engine install radial.
Basis for g. 57 served as an experienced fighter g. 55S/N, which is intended for mass production in the second half of the year 1943. In fact, he passed most of the design elements: low-sited wing, the middle part of the fuselage with the pilot's cabin and the back of the fuselage with the wings. Changed only the bow section where been radial engine of FIAT A-83-24.52 "Vortice" power 1475 HP powerplant was scheduled with air cooling will improve the survivability of the fighter, and the maximum speed is not less than 600 km/h. Additionally provided for suspension 680-kg torpedoes would have done from g. 57 very dangerous opponent for Allied ships.
By August 1943, was willing to draft project G. 57, but begin to elaborate and it was not possible. Next month's events showed that the Italian aviation industry is not able to implement even the neighbour plans for production aircraft. After the Armistice and the ensuing occupation by German troops 57 g. project was rejected from the buildings, but in the post-war period, individual achievements on this fighter aircraft were used to create G. 59.

Hi Fiat CANSA FC.20.

http://alternathistory.com/mnogotselevoi-istrebitel-i-razvedchik-bombardirovshchik-cansa-fc20-italiya
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CANSA_FC.20
"The CANSA FC.20 was a twin engine reconnaissance bomber/ground attack monoplane designed and built in Italy in 1941.
FC.20 First prototype, long nose reconnaissance version.
FC.20bis Short nose ground attack version. Dorsal turret.
FC.20ter As FC.20 with 745 kW (1,000 hp) Fiat A.80 R.C.41 twin row 18-cylinder radial engines. Dorsal turret.
FC.20quater As FC.20bis with 935 kW (1,250 hp) Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V-12 engines. Dorsal turret."

I think that bottom four drawing(bottom three drawings are partial enlarged one) are factory original drawings of FC.20 prototype.

Fiat CR.41.

http://www.warbirds.jp/data/ita/htm/cr41.htm
Partial translation.
"Fiat CR.40/41
CR.40 is one of the proposed design which offered in paralleled with CR.32..
CR.40’s base was CR.30 same as CR.32, and design concept were as follows to reduce weight and drag.,
(1) Install air cooler engine and had small fuselage.
(2) Connected biplane directly to the fuselage.
CR.40 prototype which had a Bristol Mercury IV engine (MM.202) was completed in 1934.
Nevertheless CR.40 had good climbing performance, total performance was inferior compared with CR.32, failed to adopt.
Although Italian air force decided to continue CR.40 research and ordered CR.40bis prototype(MM275) which had a domestically produced Fiat A59R engine in 1935. But CR.40bis,suffered unsolved engine trouble and maximum speed was only 350km/h, rejected again..
Also the study of performance improvement plan for the CR.32 was ordered to Fiat in 1935.
Fiat decided to develop following plan.
(1) Improved engine power CR.32 called CR.33.
(2) Light weight CR.32 called CR.32 quarter.
(3) Improved engine power CR.40 called CR.41.
CR.41 had a Gnome et Rhône 14Kfs 900hp engine and increased area vertical tail stabilizer/rudder.
CR.41 No.1 prototype (MM207) was quickly completed and rolled out in 1935. Also No.2 prototype(MM208) with trouble disappeared But Italian air force decided to develop mono plane, CR.41 inspection was stopped."
