Yes, and retracting of the launding gear was impossible - the nose wheel would collide with the ballast weight at the missile nose, while main wheels would collide with missile wings.

Really was there such an idea? A great care and a lot of effort was put into providing sufficient ground clearance for a number of bigger weapons, some were simply disqualified because of the insufficient GC... Life would have been much easier if there had been a launch trolley on hand. :)

The use of a trolley at least is shown in several drawings, so I think, it was at least contemplated and
with the V8 prototype, a four engined variant actually used it. How serious such thoughts actually were,
who knows ? Without doubt, the Arado engineers came up with them, when the outcome of WW II for
Germany was undoubtly foreseeable.

The Orlginal AR 234 concept, had to land on three retractable skids as landing gear
For take off it use a jettisonable three-wheeled, nosegear-style trolley.
after first trails they discovered how stupid this idea was.
so the B version was modified to have fully retractable tricycle landing gear.

but the idea stuck for bigger payload like V1 (also for Hs 293 A ?)
the reason why ? was simple, the AR 234 was the biggest Jet aircraft the Luftwaffe had in 1944/45.
It could fly those mission and get back alive.

Hmmm... But do we have any evidence, trolley was actually considered for Ar 234 B/C with any bigger load (except Mistel), or is it just a speculation? I don't think I've ever seen such a combination.

Both. :) Three rocket Ar 234 variants were considered:
- with two HWK 109-509 C-1 in nacelles under wings;
- with one HWK 109-509 C-1 (?) under the tail; both were cancelled in mid 1944.
- with two BMW 109-003 R; Ar 234 V16 was planned in but never completed.
All are illustrated just above in hesham's post, drawing 25.

Interesting comparison there H, & makes an intriguing contrast with the similar Junkers/B-52 resemblance,
almost like they had traded podded/buried engine layout ideas..

Arado Ar 234C-3/N

I've got this small excerpt detailing the night fighter version of the four-engined Ar 234 (very similar to the two-engined Ar 234B-2/N which saw limited service), i'm wondering if someone has the full report detailing weight etc.

Dear Hesham,

I believe the pictures 4 and 5 portray an Arado Ar 234R variant with rocket-assisted take off. Arado 234E-1 variant was to have He S011 engines and Mk 103 (i think) in a gunpod under the fuselage.

A small propeller driving fuel pumps, according to the caption (I wonder if it wasn't just an electric generator as in the Me 163...?).
The variant in the picture is purely rocket propelled.

Two views of the wooden mock-up of the camera itallations inside the rear section of the Ar 234’s fuselage. These lOtographs may have belonged to a series of prints sent to the, M before a first prototype jet reconnaissance aircraft was rebuilt
