Not going with the original concept arguably cost Boeing quite a few customers in the long term, especially given how the market evolved.

EDIT: From the article;

747 8F freighter concept (some antenna seem to have their location change)

I wonder when in the process Boeing decided to change the size and position of the horizontal stabilizer on the 747-8. I've never seen anything about a design change, but the ACAPS documentation shows a different span and a different overhang beyond the fuselage.

747 Advanced Tanker/Oversized Cargo Aircraft "ATOCA"

A growth version of the -200F competing in the ATCA program against the KC-10; the flight deck would have been raised 48 inches and be provided with a new large cargo door and improved tanker boom. It seems like it was proposed to supplement the C-5 or potentially replace it if the repair program failed, truly a shame it was not adopted.

Hopefully this website might help:

It also includes other unbuilt variants and projects like the Cruise Missile Carrier Aircraft (CMCA), the Airborne Aircraft Carrier (AAC), the KC-33, etc.

Doc available below
Hello,
I post here some of my illustrations that I published in Le Fana de l'Aviation a few years ago on the same topic. Sorry, I do not remember the article reference (it was in French). We chose to depict only 1 potential fighter configuration among many.
Regards
Alain

" Boeing forecasts the need for about 900 airplanes -- passengers and freighters -- in the 400-plus-seat segment over the next 20 years. Boeing also forecasts that large widebody freighters (65 metric tons and above in capacity) will comprise 34 percent of the freighter market by 2024. "

so many what if possibility here, was the 747 800X verry different from the 8i? (planning to use the zvezda 747 for this one)

In view of the material already presented in the forum this topic will surely motivate enough crossposting but I believe that the topic deserves to take their own place.

-A 90's proposal of GE for a Super-AWACS. A wind tunnel model existed but I have not gotten pictures of the same one.

Here is a Model and drawing to Super-AWACS project
Here photos from AWST Nov 1990.

Would this variant have been used to warn of incoming missile threats as well? The radar seems a tad bit large for normal "day-to-day" AWACS.

NASA had two unusual variants: the Shuttle carriers and SOFIA.

One thing that the article doesn't mention is that a Japan Air Lines requirement also played a major role in the creation of the SP variant (in some sources the Japanese request actually preceded the Pam Am/Iran Air request).
