A large scale model of the Tu-144 at the entrance to the hangar at Monino and the real thing outside, looking rather sad on this rainy, bleak day in Moscow many years ago in the age of crappy 35mm film cameras.

Was there any effort to actually keep the Tu-144 in limited service VIP's ? after the crash as from Yefin Gordon's book about the Tu-144 is was shown being at least used to show the capability of soviet civil aviation to western VIP's including Neill Armstrong who may have gotten a Tu-144 model

144PP would have bulky long antenna fairings below outer engine nacelles and another antenna fairing rear protruding bulge over rudder. Plus missile pylons for pair of tandem placed AAMs in the middle of each wing.

Thank you, shame there doesn't appear to be any art on it.

I found the same image on previous Red Star Volume 24 pg 108. Published 2005 by Midland
The latest volume is a luxury expanded version of that soft cover Red Star series

Given the interest I got (number of likes) the last time I posted one of these illustrations, I'll post this one. If the community continues to like them, I will be happy to post more. You have to love this Communist era advertising; "Speed and Comfort". It should have read; "Consider yourself lucky if you get there". This is from one of my Tu-144 brochures.

Did not think we had a Tu 144 thread on here. Found these photographs of Tu 144 mockups being tested in wind tunnels (I think the T-101 but can be wrong) at the TsAGI institute.

Wasn't quite the success the communists claim it was, flew passenger routes for only a year, and even then, with a minimal number of flights. Tickets were 80 rubles, while a ticket on a conventional aircraft was around 60. Not such a stark ticket price difference as between the Concorde and regular airliners in the west, but the "Concordski" did have 90-95 decibels of noise in the cabin during flight. Also one of these landed in a field in 1978, even the Concorde can't compare.

Reconstruction of the Tupolev Tu 144 CCCP-77102 after its crash at the Paris Airshow. Photograph taken in Moscow, date and location unknown. We can speculate this was in Zhukovskiy/Ramenskoe at the TsAGI institute.

Additionally, here are some photographs of the Tu 144 Yegorevsk crash in 1978. The event is overshadowed by the Paris Airshow crash from half a decade prior, but it stands to date as the only successful crash landing of a supersonic airliner and the only crash involving a supersonic airliner with survivors.
