In Waffenarsenal Bd.108 a provisional drawing shows, what the He 280 with
four Argus 014 pulse jets would have looked like.

Thanks everyone - i didn't realise that the He 280 project had been so thoroughly elaborated - what with the initial powerplant problems; i thought it had been completely shelved after the first few test-flights

Hi,

here is the Heinkel He-280 V7,without turbojets.

The V7 was used for handling tests as a glider. From the already mentioned Waffenarsenal Bd.108,
a drawing showing the additional installations and three photos of this aircraft

A bunch of good drawings from Heinkel: Raketen und Strahlflugzeug

There are a few more drawings I could post if people want to see them, as well as some rare photos.

Apologies if these have been posted elsewhere before

The last drawings are in russian language. So it must be material captured by the soviets. Does anyone know what they made from it?

Excellent stuff, Sienar! Thanks for sharing with us. Please do post more on this (and other german) subject.

There were rumors that He-280 influenced more on Su-9 project than other German planes.

HI Sir !! Would you have some rare photos or Blueprints from ARADO 234 Blitz ??
Do you mind to share it ??

Regards

Hi People
We've been having a great chat about this aircraft HERE and I've been digging around and discovered nowhere explaining where the He280B-1's 2'7" fuselage extension was to be incorporated. As it was for extra fuel we're pretty certain it would have to go forward of the existing tank, it would be good to find some proof. Any ideas?
BTW it's a build on the What-If? Modelsite that has experienced scope creep. So much for a QUICK-BUILD :D;)

Behind the cockpit to compensate for the longer length of the BMW 003 engines

Why not split the extension as with the Herc variety?

sometimes i wonder what they were thinking when the germans came up with these designs for quad pulse jets

In late 1943, flight tests of the Messerschmitt Me 328 V3 transported on a bomber Do 217 in Mistelschlepp configuration started in Hörschling-Linz airfield. The plane was the prototype of the future Me 328 A, the fighter version of the programme. At an altitude of 18,000 ft the carrier plane started a shallow dive to facilitate ignition of the two experimental pulsejets Argus VSR-7 attached to both sides of the fuselage of the prototype. After launch, the pilot verified that the engines lost thrust quickly and were unable to maintain the flight altitude of the Me 328 V3 until coming down to 9,000 ft when the engines returned to normal.
A new attempt made with two Argus As 109-014 could only worsen the problem of vibration, to the extent that Messerschmitt technicians used explosive bolts to fix them so that the airplane might be detached in case of emergency.
Subsequent tests showed that this type of engines were useful only when the plane was flying at relatively low altitudes and speeds and the RLM concluded that the Me 328 could not be used as a fighter.
The Argus pulsejet could not be throttled for lack of fuel pump, which had been removed to simplify the design. The fuel system was pressurized by means of compressed air bottles. The life of the flap valves was 20 minutes and only produced 366 kp thrust at 3,000 m ceiling.
