While searching thru my bookshelf I re-found a book about projects from Beriev ... and also this - at least for me - unknown ASW-project ! ???

Was it an alternative one to the Tu-142 ASW-version or an independent proposal ?

This looks like an adaptation of a pre-existing airliner, but which airliner?

Overall, I'm am reminded of the Tu-156 AEW proposal, which oddly enough lost to Beriev's A50 which was based on the Il-76.

It would be bizarre if Beriev had proposed a Tu-156 based ASW aircraft....

In terms of overall performance, it would probably have given the modern P-8 a run for it's money!

Why bizarre? They did the A-50, which was a version of the Ilyushin Il-76, so why not a version of a Tupolev design??

Cool, it looks like a sort of odd mix-up among Nimrod and B707/KC-135....
