The network has a video of the landing of the MiG-31 from which kerosene flows like a river. Then there was no fire. So this is not the first such case


Wow. I thought that was a fuel dump when I watched it land, but the post landing images make it clear that's not the case. A lot of Soviet vintage fighters used the outter skin of the aircraft as the fuel tank, with no other layer in-between, as a weight saving measure. Is that perhaps the case in the MiG-31 as well?
 
It is called a welded "tank compartment" (бак-отсек)
Steel cooks very well and usually there are no problems with it. I suspect that the pipeline is leaking in the extreme video

The SR-71 used something similar, and as a result it leaked fuel depending on the temperature of the airframe because of how much the plane's fuselage flexed under various heat loads. It apparently leaked like spaghetti strainer even during take off. The very high flash point of JP-7 made this an acceptable bug. As a result I believe you can see flames randomly ignite behind the aircraft as it takes off when the leaked fuel hits the already burnt exhaust stream and ignites. I've been told it was kind of a fireworks show to watch an SR-71 take off.

The Blackbird leaked like that because no sealant existing at the time could tolerate both the temperatures and stretching of the airframe.
 
Interesting perspective regarding sizes of the various types.

Edit: Is that the Mig 31M at the top of the middle row?
It looks like it has the reduced size wing fences compared to the Mig 31 parked next to it.
Edit 2: Perhaps that's a Mig 25 below it, going by the wingtip rails, smaller spine, and shorter engine nozzles...?

that can't be found really this days on the web ( cause the restrictions etc.) it's funny how little do we know about Izdelie 05 05m
and 05bm ( aka mig-41 ) as one kid with a mask once said there are genetics of an interceptor that can't be ignored so...
Everyone for the past 30 years seams to copy paste the same information over and over again but in the end of the day it's the lost first 5th gen fighter of the Soviet/Russian era not MFI nor PAKFA that's the answer to the whole stealth mania that started in the 80's a b737-200 flying at Mach 3

Ps. if you look closer at airport ispitatelni (its in the links of paralay post of Google maps ) you may find that something is missing

Interesting to see the speed time limits.

3 min at Mach 2.83, 15 min at Mach 2.65 - 2.83, 15 min at Mach >2.35.
These values are with R-33 missiles only.

When carrying R-40T/DT, max speed is Mach 2.35.

When carrying R-60M , 8 min max time at Mach 2.2, 60 minutes at Mach 1.75.

In addition, the flight management manual indicates that Flights at speeds of more than 1250 km/h, on the numbers Mach ›2.65, and
also at speeds of more than 1000 km/h at altitudes below 3000 m you can make only by special permission.

In 1985 one MiG-31 from the 530th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Defence Army flew from Chuguyevka air base (Far East) to the Dolinsk-Sokol air base on the Sakhalin island ( 777th Fighter Aviation Regiment) with constant cruising speed of 2500km/h at alt of 21500m armed with four R-33 and two R-40TD. Distance? About 1000kms.

As a main constructor, Gleb E. Lozino-Lozinsky once said that MiG-31 thanks to its used construction materials can be operational for more than a half of century. After 113 MiG-31B/BS that were overhauled and modernised to BM level ,NAZ Sokol in Nizhny Novgorod and 518th Aviation repair plant in Rzhev continue to work on the 'Izdeliye 01' or MiG-31 'basic variant' produced in the first half of the '80s ( more than 40 years ago) that would be converted to the MiG-31BM. At the same time, MiG-31DZ /Izdeliye 01DZ are being overhauled and modernised to MiG-31K version as the 'Kinzhal' carrier.

Given this is in actual manual and its not for a naked airframe but and armed one it seems M =2.83 was definetly flown on the regular. But M-2.35 seems to be the 'economical' daily driver speed.

MiG-31 has two cruising regimes, one subsonic with M 0.85 ( 1000 km/h) on the MP- mode and second supersonic with M 2.35 ( 2500 km/h) on the Min AB mode.

That's an interesting question, but the answer is probably not
the graphic shows the operating range minimum and maximum speed at certain altitudes as stated at the previous page, on the next page (50) you can read the operational limitations with other loads the maximum temperature shouldn't exceed 290C M=2.83 for more than 3 mins for the airframe but for the R-40 and R-60 is 1200km/h the limitation is imposed by the attachment points i will check about any info in another flight manual about izd.01 and report back

Well, there may be lots of folks there with connections--like how everybody and their brother on this side of the Atlantic claimed to work on Apollo and/or were at Woodstock.

If you would--link some of the more interesting asides you feel credible.

Aerospace deserves better remembrance.
