viewing book " Gli idrovolanti della seconda guerra mondiale " of Augusto Nani, Albertelli Editore ( that manage Tuttostoria ), i have seen that original project was a great flyinboat enginered by 4 Diesel Junkers 223 with 2500 hp (for engine), so in projected versions of production the airplanes coud be enginered by 4 BMW 801 !

Airman,

Were there any drawings of the original 4 engined diesel design?

Here are a few more drawings.

Originally Bv238 was proposed with 4 four engines Jumo 223 with 2500 hp , but long-time for deveploment of this engines , in final project and their two prototypes the 4 jumo 223 was replaced by 6 DB603 !
;)

Few more drawings and photos. Including BV 250 Land Version of the BV 238. Photo shows full scale model of the outrigger landing gear.

Hei Gary,

outstanding line of pictures you have. Many thanks for sharing.

Carlos

Hi Gary,

Any chance of scanning these drawings to a larger size..??

Be nice if they were around three times the size so that the details are clearer.

Just a thought.

Grateful to see them anyway.

I have these scans at about 10 times larger files sizes. Way to big for this site.

I can burn you a disk if you give me your address.

Gary

Here is the last drawing. Though poor quality, it does show the land version BV 250 and how cargo was to be loaded. Note how the front landing gear is dropped to lower the nose.

Interestingly the Drawing is labeled P.161.01 not BV 250. Was this a different project from the BV 250?

Hi Gary,

each company had it`s designation system to allocate, e.g. numbers to their projects ( Junkers EF..., Arado E..., while most manufacturers chose the P... system, excluding Fw, a quite complicated one ). Blohm&Voss used the P... I consulted my literature ( Smith&Kay and Nowarra) and they all concur in giving the B&V P. 161 to the land based version of the Bv238. That`s the case. One more thing: P.161.01 means that it is the first design drawing on that particular project.

While surfing the microfilm at NASM archives, I chanced upon an absolutely crappy quality image of the BV 250 Zwilling. IMHO, one of the most outrageous designs ever proposed. The landing gear track appears to be over 40 meters. I could understand the BV tubular spar might be quite strong in some planes, but as the horizontal tail surfaces were not joined, it would seem that transferring torsion loads through the wing would have been a major structural design challege. IIRC, I have seen some sketches of this project before and felt it was another third reich fantasy. However, this appeared to be an authentic B&V drawing with the following information in the title block: P 167.01-01, BV 250-Zwilling. The date was too fuzzy to read. I will attempt to clean up the drawing and if that is successful, post it here.

Best Regards,

Artie Bob

In a rather serious fit of dyslexia, this topic had "BV 283" instead of BV 238 all over... I have fixed the problem now, but can only encourage each and every contributor to re-read their posts before clicking on the "Post" button...

Hi,

the Blohm and Voss BV.250 and P.187,the later was a landplane version of BV.222.

All that, yet, with the ENIGMA codes broken, the RAF fighters would still jump them mid-Med, half-way to Afrika Corps...

And, even the land-based version could not have adequately supplied the Eastern Front...

A thought: Would this beast have had the range to reach Argentina ??

Hi Raa,

instrument panels and throttle levers drawings

Thanks a lot, that's quite interesting!

I noticed that the pilot has a "blind landing indicator" and a "blind take-off indicator". Normally, the German term "blind landing" means "instrument landing", which for WW2 Germany was equivalent to the Lorenz system, but with a separate indicator for take-offs (and yet another for the radio altimeter, next to the two others), I realyl don't know what kind of technology these indicators might have used. Very intriguing! :)

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

and i making BV 238 Baubeschureibung PDF file.
it is so hard work...lol
Any luck on that PDF my friend?
worst of all, my home printer is broken.
So this work is running late.
That's quite alright, no stress because life happens. I just found this thread last night myself, so thought I would reach out, and see how things are going. I commend you for your efforts!

Finally.
I'm sorry that I had to reduce the image quality due to size.
I hope everyone enjoy it.
