Two interesting projects BAC-201 of the late 1960's can carry a 4500kg pay load and Britten Norman Mainlander 1973 - not much information on this one.

Also in Air Pictorial 9/1964,


the RAF studied a new gain transport aircraft project,weight 270 ton and with a
range over 5000 Miles,can anyone ID it ?,I don't remember any huge military
transport like it !.

Via Edward Pinnegar's website, a couple of more images related to the Britten Norman Mainlander, including what seems to be an artist impression of a freight/passenger orientated competitor to Lockheed's L-100‑20.

EDIT: According to this post over at the CalClassic Forum, the engines were to be three RR Darts.

Maybe AST.365,but Shorts SC.5/45 ?.
 
I know that RLBH,


but 270 ton weight,if they meant the aircraft with its upload carrying,maybe it was
the same aircraft,specially we know SC.5/45 had a 192 ton weight.

Sounds like one of the AST.364 submissions. Won't be the Jet Belfast, maybe this Vickers project (bottom image)?

You'll have to wait for the book to come out for more info, I got a preview that contains very little data but the Vickers design was rather larger than the SC.5/45 and weight could be in that ballpark.
