Hi,

To get a new projects it's not easy, but there was many projects to
a light aircraft didn't build.

The Zlin Z-120 was a project of six-seat with retractable undercarriage,
a stretch version of Z-20 twin engined low wing light monoplane.

Hi,

The Frati F-10 was low wing light jet trainer project in general
layout of F-5 but with side-by-side two seat and powered by
one Turbomeca Marbore 2 and had estimated speed of 298 mph.

Hi,

The SIPA S.262 Anjou was a project of six-seat stretch version
of SIPA S.261 Anjou light twin aircraft which itself developed from
Boisavia B.260 Anjou.

Hi,

The Zlin Z-122 was deveoped from Z-22 but powered by
one 105 hp Toma engie and Z-33 was side-by-side two seat
trainer wich was Junak with a cut-down rear fuselage and
a bubble canopy,projects only.

Hi,

The Fairchild FA-227 Metro25 was a project of Metro III
with belly baggage compartment,25 seats and TPE331-12
turboprops.

Hi,

The Zlin Z-426 was agricultural version of Z-326 but not
built and the Frati F-15D was a project developed from
F-15B with 250 hp Franklin engine.

Hi,

The Learjet Model-55C was a project developed from
Model-55B with delta fins and redesigned engine pylons.

Hi,

Of course we know Aerospatiale SN-602 Corvette which was
general similar to SN-601 but powered by two 3,755 1b Snecma/
Turbomeca larzac 03 turbofans, but there was anther little
known project versions of Corvette;

the Corvette 200,which had a lengthened fuselage to accommodate
18-seat and Corvette 300,which was powered three engined.

From Aviation Week 1973 14-26, the Corvette 300 :

Damn hell the light aircraft was this.

Ok, Flateric is quite right, I think !
In the US and canadian definition, a light aircraft has a TOW
of not more than 12.500 lbs (5.670 kg), definitions in other
countries are probably similar, strictly spoken, neither the Corvette,
nor any of the Learjets fall in this category .

But judged against other airliners, they still are "light aircraft" ! ;)

And now back to single engined aircraft, as the majority of light
aircraft (one to six seats ?) have just one engine.
Maybe an interesting question : Which number of engines was the highest
for light aircraft ?

Thank you my dear Jemiba,

And for the Corvette the USA purchased about 90 %
from its production.

Hi,

the Moynet-2000 was designed to carry five passengers and two
pilots, that project was powered by one Turbomeca Astazou X
turboprop in the nose and a P&W JT12 turbojets in the tail.
The Moynet 700 was a version with two 290 hp Lycoming and
large fusealge to accommodate 6/7 people.

Hi,

Mooney M-22 :experimental twin engined version of M-20A with
two 150 hp Lycoming O-320 (later 180 hp O-360)
engines.(not related to M-22 single engine aircraft).

Hi,

Volpar (Beechcraft) Mini Tanker : was a version, developed
from Turboliner, equipped as a tanker for in-flight refuelling,
terminated at early of 1970s.

Does 'unbuilt' in the subject mean never built or only a prototype? There was a prototype of the twin engined Mooney.

Although mention has been made of the type elsewhere in the forum, I would like to add the Taifun Flugzeugbau Me 108F to this category. Although it was a development of the original Bf 108 Taifun communications aircraft, it still featured further improvements. Please find attached a GA and the text from Air Enthusiast International June 1974 issue.

….. Which number of engines was the highest
for light aircraft ?
Back during the 1970s, an American tinkerer hung a half-dozen, small, chain-saw engines from a single-seat glider and flew it a few times. The glider was a 1930s vintage, wood and fabric, open cockpit, strut-braced, pylon-mounted high-wing.

Even sillier are some of the currently flying/hovering VTOL manned multi-copters with 8 or 12 or ??? small electric motors.
I suspect that this is an evolution from the known-to-the-unknown and power limitations on early, flight-rated/man-rated electric motors.

American Jet Industries proposed the “Hustler” (1970s) an executive (6-ish seats) airplane pulled by a nose-mounted turboprop and pushed by a jet engine. The rest of the airframe resembled a Learjet.
AJI also proposed the “Peregrine” military trainer based upon that airframe but with only 2 seats and the single jet engine.

AJI Hustler project was bought by Grumman American, but it stalled.

Hi,

The Frati F-10 was low wing light jet trainer project in general
layout of F-5 but with side-by-side two seat and powered by
one Turbomeca Marbore 2 and had estimated speed of 298 mph.
Stelio Frati sketched another half-dozen airplanes that never got off the drawing board.
The largest was a twin turboprop cargo plane with a tail ramp to unload cargo. It was perhaps half the size of a C-27 Spartan.

I can confirm that Frati’s airplanes fly as well as they look after a single
flight in a Marchetti prop trainer. It is stable when you want it to be stable. Control forces are firm, but it goes exactly where you point it. Visibility is superb!
