I was fortunate to meet Dr. Von Ohain in 1983 when he was a visiting professor at the University of Florida. He graciously allowed me to waste his time answering my ignorant questions about his gas turbine prototype. I suppose he responded to my enthusiasm--he encouraged me to pursue an engineering career. I was working on a geology degree, and struggling with the math and physics requirements as it was, so I thanked him sincerely and went on my way.
