That's a bit of an unkind reading of the article, the author was putting this design in a wider context.

The readership of course benefits from familiar examples and the X-32 fits that bill as a preceding design with similar features; we'll of course have to see what can realistically be gleaned from the presentation going forward. The now quite considerable foreign directed Russian media establishment (and perhaps its more gray zone affiliates) is participating quite actively in the roll out which is interesting and noteworthy in and of itself.

Not quite incidentally this forum must be some kind of a treasure trove of design ideas for professionals all around. As already noted in this very thread there are some much more obscure (to the general public) designs that have an even firmer claim to inspiration regarding Sukhoi's latest than the X-32, the above MRF-54E being one. One reason to be judicious in posting, perhaps.

Well, air and radio waves behave the same way all around the world and countries that see themselves as rivals try to maintain at least equivalent computer modelling abilities. I call it convergent evolution.

You should see tinfoil hatters who point out that Egyptian and Mayan pyramids are suspiciously similar.

I didn't make that decision. Reviewing the deleted posts, I can't say any of them are a loss to the debate, and I don't want to have to re-litigate every decision made by other moderators. It may be worth a poll about how users feel on this subject.

There is always a tension between the dual purposes of this forum - its a database of information, AND a discussion forum.

I would argue there should be a speculation post/discussion for this topic, or any other, in the bar, and only known facts in these threads (Yes, I'm guilty as well.) Just from the experience of going back through older threads on "whatever subject" and having to dig through the cr*p posts to find the nugget of information I was looking for. My two cents, anyway.

I have a hypothesis that it may utilize an internal bay nearly identical to the two bays of the su57. It just makes sense to me. I need to go back and look at the sizes and compare to the checkmate tho.

If that was the case tho it would mean two r74 in side bays and two r77 or two kh69 in central bay.

Convergent evolution in nature has made even more similar designs completely independently of each other. I think we'll see more convergence now that we have lots of CFD and other computer techniques.

I would consider the EF and Rafale a little younger than that given how long it took for the Euros to get to 4th gen fighters.

And overpriced, just as F-35. Indians already "enjoyed" a purchase of 36 MMRCA Rafales, instead of 128, planned to be ordered initially and...ordered additional number of Su-30MKI.

Well, there was a lot more to the Indian Rafale saga than that. India was supposed to manufacture most of the order, but the bureaucracy insisted that Dassault be responsible for any manufacturing issues in Indian-made Rafales. Dassault, of course, said no way, the Indian bureaucracy said ‘we’re being totally reasonable here’, and the whole thing stalled until there was a presidential visit where it was decided the best thing to do was limit the involvement of the bureaucracy by ‘going all-French’.

Eurofighter and Rafale were the only ones who passed the testing portion of the competition.

Fan Art 100%. I should have been more specific.

I guess the earliest "non fan art" reference we have to such a design scheme will be these 2 illustrations from Aldo Spadoni from 1992 that he apparently shared on Facebook. Could not find the direct link.

I sincerely hope that UAC makes us such an offer that we are unable to refuse . Substantial ToT to HAL for in-country production of the LFS at Nashik coupled with some hand holding and hot section tech transfer to GTRE for the Kaveri program.

The licensed production of Su-30MKI at HAL Ozhar is complete. The plant is lying idle besides being used for MRO of the Sukhois. There is some rumour of converting the assembly lines into another overhaul division for increasing the no Sukhois ovehauled each year . Additional Sukhois are yet to be ordered. This plant is perfect for LTS licensed production.

If Sukhoi offers us a good deal in terms of unit flyaway cost and can complete the rest of the development in a relatively short period of time, there's a good chance that we select the LTS for our 110-114 MRCA aircraft tender. Rafale is presently the airforce's most favoured candidate but it's a tad too expensive. Besides, none of the contenders in the MRCA comp is stealthy. So there's a good chance Sukhoi lands this deal if they play their cards right .

India would be a great first customer for this platform. They have extensive experience operating Russian craft, a large pool of obsolete single engine fighters in need of replacement, and no 5th gen program likely to materialize in the near future. The AMCA is supposedly going to be flying sometime around 2030, but we're all familiar with Indian development timelines. They also have the Tejas, I suppose, but we'll have to wait and see how much appetite the IAF truly has for it in the face of ever more capable Chinese craft. It may be a case of 'too little, too late'.

Just don't say any of that to the fine fellows over on a certain Indian military forum. Last I checked, they're all currently having a meltdown over "Russian whores" trying to seduce the Babus and sabotage the LCA/AMCA programs.

if it's 2 inlets it's an f-22 if it's one centerline then it's x-32 clone. These basic inlet layouts predated both of these aircrafts. Given the stealth requirements, if you can forgo horizontal stabilizers you would. I doubt the Russians had to reference x-32 for that added confidence in choosing this configuration.

You work fast!!! Great model, the only improvements I can see would be to give it the canopy ECS exhausts from the latest Su-57 (instead of the config from the first few prototypes, and correct the air scoops at the base of the fins. These are not at the leading edge of the root, as on the Su-57 but set back quite a bit.

Stellar work though!
