First ever spotting of the designation Su-35SM happened in the Akhtubinsk air base where 929 GLITs of the Ru MoD is stationed. In fact, it happened during one TV reportage about 100 anniversary of that centre.

From 3:13 ,we can see Su-35SM ( row No 14) Bort number 51 and 52 red.

For now ,Su-35SM is not the official designation in the VKS .


Now about the Su-57,in this case E ,509 blue .

Do we have to - just because there is NOTHING else NEW to report - constantly post photos that have already been posted x times in completely irrelevant reports that bring nothing new? If nothing happens that is worth reporting, then maybe just post NOTHING?

It's really annoying.

OK but I thought that photo where we can see only one outer weapon compartment as opened with R-74M2 model wasn't posted so far.Btw ,Sergey Bogdan said that it wasn't some malfunction.

That is either a delayed AB light, or a dual engine compressor stall

very very interesting development. India might fast track the purchase of the Su57 as a response since the F35 is booked until the late 2020s. Also gives India plausible deniability over lockheed's inability to deliver as fast as India needs although If India does buy the F35 it could do so at a massive premium to get it faster.

either way looks like the su57 might get a new export customer apart from algeria very soon.

@MODS idk if this strictly belongs here since its not technically news that is related to the su57 but this does have profound impact on India's chances of buying the su57(which looks to have increased drastically) which is related to the su57s export.

I'm surprised they didn't adopt a desert themed paint scheme like the Algerian Su-34s. But different roles, so maybe that's why.

IIRC Su-57 cammo pattern was result of actual development/evaluation process to screw up with digital recognition. Not sure how much it helps when in modern world everyone will just train on specific pattern in the first place, but either way, changing it will come with some penalty.
 
How good is Sensor fusion on Su-57 fighter compared to say Su-35 or Western equivalent of F-35 or Rafale.

The Su-57 as per open source have around 4 million plus lines of code versus say F-35 with 8 million plus lines of code so likely the latter is more software intensive and sensor fusion driven ? Thank you

Aspects like effectiveness of sensor fusion cannot reliably be gauged by enthusiasts online. You'd have to work at UAC/LM for an accurate assessment and then you'd face jail time for sharing such information on the Internet. On paper both the Su-57 and F-35 have a lot of sensory equipment meant to aid them in target identification and acquistion, situational awareness and as part of the aircrafts defensive countermeasures.

The Su-57, with it's integrated IRST, DIRCM, MAWS, various radar and electronic countermeasures has a more extensive sensor and countermeasure suites that the previous Su-35 or a Rafale. How comprehensively these are fused together to optimize their operation and effectiveness, that's something you'd need to ask an engineer or pilot familiar with the aircraft.

Actually Su-57 has more than 8 million lines of code because it is using two IMA BK computing systems:

But these are the old numbers from almost a decade ago. Latest Su-57 versions (as well as F-35) have more advanced avionics suite, and the number of lines of code will not tell the whole story for sure.

Just like how knowing the exact specifications of an SDB offers one little comfort when one of them happens to enter through the bedroom window, I'd argue a stealth scheme which relies on keeping unalterable design features of your aircraft secret is not a good one.

Surprising, the known video from KnAAZ made during Feb this year.

When we discussed about so called radar blocker( anti-radar grid or radial-coaxial grid) inside of the air intakes several months ago, I must admit ,I was sceptical about it.First thoughts were about possible 'air flow mass issues' inside of the air intakes.Also must admit that I hoped the real grid is there 'cause it is obvious that Su-57's air intakes are not so curved as it is supposed to. Of course must admit that I was wrong ,the grids are there.Only question is , are those grids integrated from the beginning of the serial production?

I am sure it is rather primitive since HMD isn’t in service yet. Without that it just combining info on MFDs in helpful ways.

considering it was there since the conception of the aircraft it's collaterals were certainly taken into consideration from the start

Yeah, but every time we see videos of the su-57 making that Star Wars spaceship sound it was production aircraft and the Algerian models so one could think those aircraft had the blocker installed.
