when i read the name i toughed first about this Romanov, had to Google the name but still i do not think the Soviet Union could have gone longer, it would still crash, either softly as OTL ore hard with somebody who will use whatever means to keep the Union together.

Is this thread dead? I honestly wanted to see more on what a Romanov led USSR could be like a long with more competent reforms.

Incidentally, the missile it is launching there is the Project 172 AAM-L (which evolved into the post-cold war KS-172 in our timeline) which was/is designed to engage enemy bombers, AWACs, tankers, escort fighters, etc.

I should also belatedly mention that it was intended to initially enter service with the MiG-31 fleet in the early 1990s to supplement and ultimately replace the AA-9 Amos (R-33) long range AAM missile.
