As we're hopefully in the final stages of production and to avoid further hijack of other threads....

The vast delta wing form of Avro’s Vulcan has become an iconic symbol of cold war Britain. From starring alongside James Bond in Thunderball to striking improbably distant targets during the Falklands War, the unique jet bomber has attained legendary status. But why was its shape so different from that of its contemporaries?

Amazon-US says it's due out 6/25/25. We'll see when it actually arrives.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, reading the chapter on the Gloster Javelin at the moment. Just regretting the fact that I'm not better versed on the subject of aerodynamics, which, considering how many doorstop-sized tomes I've read on aircraft development, does seem kind of odd!

Unlike the satisfied customers of Stephen Liddle's fine new book on the Avro Vulcan, I live in a remote backwater—Manhattan. According to Barnes & Noble and Amazon, US publication of Shaping the Vulcan, delayed again, will be mid-May 2026. I look forward to it. The reviews of the book so far are very positive, happily.

(Yes, I did see the advice above about obtaining this book direct from the UK publisher or other alternate methods.)

Thanks for the interest! I have been chasing up the publisher recently, to try and encourage them to solve whatever issue might be behind the distribution problem.

I can confirm now in stock with Vulcan to the Sky, and will be posted this week. So, that’s one viable route to success! Steve

While Stephen Liddle's well-received book Shaping the Vulcan: Design and Development of Avro's V-Bomber (Tempest, an imprint of Mortons) was available for purchase in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Papua New Guinea, and the Martian moon Phobos from May 2025, in my more distant home—America—publication has been pushed back into 2027, according to Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Call me crazy, but I can't help but think that Mortons might be eschewing some potential profit here.
