... and a hint about HD-21 ?.

I think no ! Couldn't find a clue about a HD-2x , not even in TdU 151. And according to that article, the "HD-21" must have
been a type, which actually was built and flown, because it's flight characteristics were known.
To my opinion, the most probable explanation, is either a typo in "HD-321", or maybe the usage of the shorter "..21", instead
of "321" in the daily language, as princiaplly all HD types then were HD-3xx.

Teamed with Sud Aviation Hurel-Dubois perhaps came quite near a
real production contract with the SAHD-120, as a contender for a
tactical transport, that eventually saw the Transall as the winner.

The SAHD 120 looks like a Transall with a typical HD-wing.
I wonder if there are better quality drawings of the SAHD-120; it would be so much fun to convert a Transall model kit into one?

I've been researching this type of aircraft, but I don't see many advantages. I think they just add a little extra performance to really poor fuselages. Could anyone tell me the benefits of this type of wing? I don't think the designer knew how to make the most of it.

High aspect ratio wings are very good at low speeds. Have low stall speeds too.
Why do you think that most gliders have very high aspect ratio wings?

No they aren't all wrong and it isn't "just marketing". Just look up: High aspect ratio wings.

Review the specifications of your existing aircraft and compare them with the competition. It never had a significant advantage; that type of wing on commercial aircraft isn't worth changing airport infrastructure simply to gain 5 to 10 percent in efficiency.

Large-format wings work well, but did they really show anything worthwhile in their model aircraft?
