It seems that CA Parsons suddenly constructed gas turbines in 1954 for Conqueror prototype P.7 07BA70 and made it the first AFV to have a gas turbine engine.
Cuz I have never read any materials about the development of early British gas turbines for ground vehicles.
Anyone knows something about UK ww2 research on AFV use gas turbines?

Richard Ogorkiewicz states that a study contract to Parsons for a gas turbine for a tank was awarded within 7 months of the end of the war, the study was for a 1,000hp unit, the first prototype was 655hp and the second 910hp. The concept was abandoned due to high fuel consumption. The Parsons Turbine was called PU2979.

655hp was PU2979
910hp was PU2983

Didn't Porsche experiment with gas turbines for tanks in WW2? I seem to recall they tested them in a forested area and the exhaust set fire to the trees!

Not entirely sure of his history.
