Chengdu / PAIC FC-1 JF-17 and Grumman Super 7

I believe this is our first glimpse of the JF-17B3’s air-cooled LKF601 AESA radar plate... (brochure renders and fair mock-ups don't count)

Thr pictures are old and we've seen them before (I believe these are from a promotional video some years ago).

I think it may have been Zhuhai 2018. In a way it is so old that it is being "rediscovered".


Also, it's not the JF-17B3's radar as far as we know.
LKF601E was offered as a radar upgrade solution for JF-17 but we don't know if it was actually implemented.
 
I wonder if these were originally intended for Pakistan or came from Pakistani stocks.. the whole scheme down to the bort number are the same as Pakistan instead of the typical Azeri one

What I'm wondering is whether they also received any PL-15Es and SOWs along with the jets (double AAM racks too!) -- or perhaps even some new datalinks...

Azerbaijan already has the SOM-B2 in service, as well as Aselpod(V1) (which is already JF-17-compatible) -- they've always been interested in inducting a much broader range of Turkish payloads, but pretty much everything beyond good old PGMs hinges on deeper integration with the JF-17's core mission systems, particularly the mission computer and radar.

I'm more interested if it's possible use Soviet R-73 missile (which Az should have in inventory) on JF-17.
 
It’s said that they selected 5 finished fighter jets from the Pakistan Air Force for trial use, and later there will be another batch of brand-new jets delivered to them.

As for compatibility with the R-73, that’s definitely not a problem—China has actually purchased and used R-73s themselves. Making it compatible with the JF-17 isn’t difficult. As for things like the PL-15E, they’re all off-the-shelf products. If they need it, they’ll buy it; if not, then they won’t. It depend on whether they have that kind of demand.
 
Azerbaijan Reveals JF-17 Deliveries

Azerbaijan has begun receiving long-awaited deliveries of its new fleet of JF-17 combat aircraft, video published by the country’s defense ministry has revealed.

Two single-seat Block 3 JF-17 Thunders appear in the video, published on July 6, flying along with Azerbaijani Air Force Aero Vodochody L-39 trainers and Sukhoi Su-25 ground attack aircraft performing training flights. The video is the first acknowledgement of the fighters’ delivery.

Baku has ordered 40 JF-17s, Pakistan’s government confirmed in September 2024. This made Azerbaijan the largest export customer for the single-engine, lightweight fighter, which was developed by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corp. Other export customers include Myanmar and Nigeria.
