US Hypersonics - Prompt Global Strike Capability

Gimme a break... the US military wanted to kill, say, Soviet bombers - by firing a missile at them from suborbital / orbital flight ? And Aeolus was NASA borrowing the technology for Mars ?

My mind is completely blown.

Not orbital or suborbital, ballistic missile with hypersonic glide vehicle.

The U.S. military has had more hypersonic projects than the rest of the world combined; it just tended to abandon them in the golden age between when the wall fell and the towers fell. And then the pointless wars began and sucked all the money out of the air.

Thanks for the answers. I've (frantically) downloaded a whole lot of SWERVE and Aeolus papers, and realized that SWERVE was linked to Redding's STAR / Space Cruiser - same shape. That very one. https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/th...technology-and-research-star.1103/#post-80880

It is a classic case of a groundbreaking space technology finding many applications: Swerve, STAR, Aeolus.

Should I post the documents ?

Damn, LORAINE was also linked to the "Outer Air Battle" ? that is, USN warships VLS would fire boost-glide missiles to kill Soviet bombers from afar and from "above" - from space. Ok... ??!! (I'm still searching and downloading like crazy. Unbelievable stuff - I'm like a kid in a candy shop on christmas morning)

Yes, the space cruiser was derived from SWERVE. Many depictions omit the wings/strakes because of security concerns.

And... here we go for The Big File Dump. Document 820850 mentions the relationship between Space Cruiser / STAR and SWERVE : same aerodynamic shape.

SWERVE was so strong we thought he needed to be exiled to Mars for his crimes.

40+ years of a space capable hyperglider and we still don't have the low Earth orbit air intercept missile. Very sad. 180 kilograms of hit to kill airplane annihilation, adding a little deorbit motor and life jacket, is easily doable with a Starship given Starlink is up to 300 kg now tbh.

U.S. Space Force please do this after the AMTI constellation is built. The USAF yearns for the sole mission focus on strategic bombardment.
