Shortly after I got up this morning and checked my computer I quickly learned that a second joint Israeli/US military strike is underway with many targets being struck including IRGC facilities also that Ayatollah Khamenei appears to have been deliberately targeted and eliminated. I'm surprised that there isn't already a thread open about this in the Bar forum.

From the wikipedia news section:

2026 Israeli–United States strikes on Iran

On 28 February 2026, Israel and the United States launched a joint attack on various targets in Iran. The operation, codenamed Roaring Lion[c] by Israel[26][27] and Operation Epic Fury by the United States Department of Defense,[28][29] began with a series of strikes against locations in Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah.

US president Donald Trump announced that the United States had launched strikes on Iran alongside Israel. He called on members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to lay down their arms in exchange for immunity, warning that refusal would mean "certain death".[30]

The initial attacks targeted key officials, military commanders, and facilities, including the compound of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which satellite images show was heavily damaged or destroyed.[31] According to Trump and some Israeli officials and at least one U.S. intelligence official,[14][32] Khamenei was killed during the attack on the compound.[33][34][35] It was also reported that Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Shamkhani was killed.[36]

In addition to the as yet unconfirmed death of Khamenei a number of senior civilian and military Iranian government officials have been killed.

President Donald Trump said Saturday that Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is dead, following joint US-Israeli strikes, calling it “not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans.” “This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country,” he wrote in a Truth Social Post.
Israel has confirmed that Iran’s supreme leader was killed in strikes on Saturday, according to two Israeli sources familiar with the matter. One of the sources said Israel had obtained a photo of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s dead body. The second source said an official announcement is being prepared.
Earlier in the evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there are many signs that Khamenei is “no longer with us.” Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Iran’s president and Supreme Leader are “safe and sound.” But Khamenei has not been seen in public or in videos since the strikes began.

Iran has denied that the Supreme Leader is dead.

Donald Trump has announced that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed.
The US President stated on his Truth Social platform: "This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World.”
"He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do… This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country.”
Satellite images show the compound of Iran’s Supreme Leader in ruins, following the launch of attacks by the US and Israel across the country. Israel said it had killed seven other senior Iranian leaders in the strikes.
In response, Iran launched attacks throughout the Middle East. Strikes have been reported in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait - all places with US military bases, or that are allied to the US.

The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran Saturday morning after what the Israeli military said was months of “close and joint planning.”
Iran responded to the attacks by launching an unprecedented wave of strikes toward Israel and US targets across the Middle East. Explosions were reported in a number of countries including the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.

A missile appeared to pass through Israeli defenses and strike the city of Tel Aviv after the United States and Israel launching a major attack on Iran.

There will no doubt be a leading article on the six o'clock news about this second Israeli/US air-raid.

Here's a local news report (New Zealand news) from Winston Peters (New Zealand's foreign minister) concerning the unfolding situation in Iran:

From RNZ:

Foreign Minister Winston Peters spoke about the unfolding conflict in Iran.
It comes after a US-Israeli attack on Iran which US President Donald Trump had indicated was aimed at overturning Tehran's government.
The attack had killed more than 200 people, according to Iranian state media.
Israel sources confirmed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes.

That's all there currently is on the local news channels but no doubt there will be more out after today's six o'clock news.

Tehran, March 1 (Xinhua) – Multiple Iranian media outlets confirmed on the 1st that Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed in attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. The Iranian government announced a 40-day national mourning period.

According to Iranian media, Khamenei 'died in the line of duty at his office,' at the time he was performing his duties. The US and Israeli attacks on Khamenei took place earlier on February 28.

US President Trump posted on social media on February 28, stating that Khamenei 'is dead,' and said that the US and Israel would continue bombings against Iran.

Al Jazeera (The Peninsula) has a report out about Khamenei's death:

Iranian state media has confirmed the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei’s daughter, grandchild, and two other family members were also killed in the strikes.
Earlier, Iran launched missiles and drones towards Israel and US military bases in the region in response to earlier attacks.
The strikes mark a significant escalation in tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, and come amid ongoing discussions over Iran’s nuclear program.
Al Jazeera's Tohid Asadi has the latest developments from Tehran.

Yesterday it was explained by media that Israel and the US divided targets so that Israel focuses on regime and the US focuses military infrastructure.
But I'm not sure if it refers to long term or just first day.
Any way, the Basij and other adjacent law enforcement and IRGC are going to be increasingly targeted, and shifting from high profile strikes to perhaps individual level over the following days.

Iran is also attempting to close the strait but seems to have hit one of its own ships

Statement of Israel Defence Force:
So:

* Israel - 150
* Kuwait - about 100 reported interceptions
* UAE - about 150 reported interceptions

So in total about 400 missiles launched/intercepted. Maybe less, since it's plausible that part of missiles have detacheable warheads, with booster serving as "natural decoy".

Being in the habit of casually visiting Flightradar24 or (more likely) ADSBExchange at a random hour once a day the (renewed) U.S./Israeli strikes came as no surprise. Seeing U.S. Airlift working in all hours in great numbers for weeks heading for the area left little room for guesswork, nor did the number of tankers aligning on the ferry route; a level resources one simply doesn't deploy for nothing. While this was happening out in the open it received remarkably little attention so I made no public note of it either.

Professor (strategic studies, focus on sea and air power) Phillips P. O'Brien on his Substack describes the U.S./Israeli forces in or close theater consisting of at least USSs Gerald Ford and Abraham Lincoln (~150 aircraft), USAF (~100 aircraft), the full Israeli Air Force and naval assets such as Arleigh Burkes and Ohios. (No mention of B-2s or B-52s operating from afar.) This, he says, represents "arguably ... the greatest concentration of airpower since World War II". He doesn't elaborate by what metric exactly but I suspect that while the numbers of participants is far fewer than in the '40s the overall effect of these forces (increased accuracy?) is considerable.

BBC is keeping a very general kind of tally of offensive events on a map on its site:

Rumored to be an American/Israel missile noticed over the Iran. Looks like Tomahawk with forward swept wings. Or maybe it's Israel Popeye-turbo in conventional version?
Where is this image even from? I only saw it as a still but not connected to any video.

Also since when do Popeyes have forward swept wings?

As of March 1, 2026, the Israeli state aircraft 'Wing of Zion' (registration 4X-ISR) is stationed at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).
The Boeing 767 landed yesterday evening, February 28, after a period of heightened regional tension. Airspotters have confirmed observing the aircraft on the tarmac today.

What looks to be a salvo of interceptors only intercepting two out of three Iranian ballistic missiles over Israel.
The footage is not recent.
Not sure if 2024 or 2025 but not 2026. These are also not 20 missiles but 11 interceptors were launched while filming. Judging by the absence of a large and loud blast, it was likely an intercepted projectile.
One successful interception could also be seen in the background.

EDIT: Apparently it is recent. I apologize.

This is a very significant development and practically shows a growth effect in the Abraham Accords.

Missile launchers being hit.

Britain, France, and Germany are considering joining the defensive efforts. I won't clutter the thread with more tweets so I'll summarize.
The UK is offering the US access to its bases for defensive ops. UK is already de facto operating in defense of Qatari airspace.
France is reportedly deploying 2 ships in Red Sea.

@uguduwa Iranian launches were sporadic from the start. This does suggest an early C2 collapse. Further claims by Trump suggest the situation has developed much further than that but so far Iranian citizens are warned to stay inside and not to protest just yet.

France officially denies a naval deployment to the Red Sea. Or at least the CDG.

A clip from CNN with an interview with former general Patraeus concerning the big mistake the Iranian military has made:

Retired general and former CIA Director David Petraeus and CNN global affairs analyst Brett McGurk evaluate the effectiveness of US-Israeli military strikes in Iran and weigh in on Iran’s retaliatory strikes across the Middle East.
Cities across the region have been brought into the conflict, with Iran striking a number of Gulf countries in the past days. The United Arab Emirates said it has detected 165 ballistic missiles launched in its direction by Iran since yesterday, of which 152 were destroyed, and 13 fell into the sea.

Earlier today CNN aired an article about the Iranian missile strike in Dubai:

Iran launched a fresh wave of strikes across the Middle East Sunday morning, with explosions heard by CNN teams in several capitals and major cities.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched a “sixth wave” of missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in the region, according to Iranian’s semi official Tasnim news agency.
