Type-XXI Submarine with Ursel rockets

The Type-XXI was important in a lot of ways, but had the Ursel rockets made it into service I think it could have further reshaped Cold War submarine equipment, at least in the immediate postwar period.

Great picture, but in the part "Fate" you could have mentioned the Type XXI submarine Wilhelm Bauer, originally designated U-2540, which served in the Bundesmarine and is now exhibited at the Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, Germany. It is the only Type XXI U-Boat to survive. IMHO you didn't mention it yet, because a visit to the Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven is still on your bucket list.

That looks like a sketch based on someone's verbal description of the weapon. Rössler's U-boottyp XXI says that between 2 to 4 launchers, apparently fixed at 45-55° elevation, would be installed in the stern. I assume the weapons would fire aft, as they were intended to destroy pursuing ships. So the accuracy of this sketch is questionable.

There's certainly space between the pressure hull and "topside".

I'd say the better option would be fixed tubes going into the pressure hull, though a pop-up launcher would reduce the number of holes in the hull that need to be kept watertight.
