Trying to solve the problem of improving the air-to-ground performance of
supersonic aircraft, several domestic design bureaus began working on projects
for aircraft with additional lift engines. As a result, in the second half of the 1960s,
a number of projects and experimental SUVP ( T-58VD , MiG-21PD , T-6-1 , "23-01" )
appeared, equipped with RD-36-35 lift engines .
Tu-22RTK - a project of a short takeoff aircraft with four RD-36-35 lift engines
installed in the landing gear nacelles. According to unconfirmed data, one serial
Tu-22R was converted, but it is not known whether it was tested.
Later, the creation of aircraft with additional PD was abandoned in favor of aircraft
with variable-sweep wings.
