Hi all,
some time ago I find a very brief description of soviet balloon bombers of the '50-'60; they intended to use them in the same way the American used the GENETRIX and MELTING POT balloons for recce flights over the USSR:

http://forums.airbase.ru/2011/03/t37366,7--aerostat-bombardirovschik.html

The info are in Russian language, a raw translation of part of the text with Google Translator:

The first generation of the new aeronautic engineering, which was created from 1958 to 1961. Include training manned balloon TA balloon director clutter ATM fighting balloons near and far action BAB-325 and BAA-3500, a balloon-meteorazvedchik MR-1 , altitude balloon laboratory VA previously by tethered balloons DAG-2, AN-800 and AZ-55, balloon ammunition starting device is exacerbated 1, SU AF, PCP and HCO.
Between mid and late 60s. - a period of intensive testing of aeronautic second-generation technology as the basis VNIITS Air Force (from 23.10.1965, the VNIC -13 Air Force), and on the basis of its branch. During this period, they have been tested and accepted by the Air Force: stratospheric balloon free automatic carrier destruction weapons, electronic warfare and agitmaterialov AN - V; altitude balloon carrier AN - C; balloon-fotorazvedchik AF-3B, the ability to fly to the target at the same altitude, and return to the other on the principle of the boomerang; Balloons -trasszondy AT - C and AT - B; meteorological balloon intelligence MP-2; Stratospheric balloon Laboratory Val-120; altitude balloon carrier agitmaterialov AG-6, and others, as well as ground support means such balloons.

Some pictures below (still images form a video), showing at least three different configurations (payloads/bombs).

Does someone has more information, or at least a better translation? ;D

Thanks

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea appears to be reviving this concept.
Payload: used toilet paper, old batteries. And poo.
The old batteries being the most technologically advanced component.

1-Well, I think it is quite significant that even human faeces leave that North Korea... shithole. Poor human poop has to resort to such desperate mean as balloons to run away.

2-I pity the unfortunate North Koreans that watch their own shit flying to South Korea, and can't even follow it. Such misery.

3-Finally, it is a vibrant tribute to Fatty Buffoon mental health. He made his country a shithole, only for the shit to fly away from the hole.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Too much Ukraine and Middle East horror and misery in the news: I needed a good laugh.)

Whole new meaning in regards to taking a dump and the airing of differences. The balloon probably is a shitty design and isn't this the turd one they launched, could be carrying feces from another species? I heard when the South Korea downed them, it was a real crap shoot!
