China are now producing J-11B with a variety of indigenous equipment. It is equipped with WS-10A turbofans, a wide angle holographic HUD, new KLJ series radar, Su-30MKK style IRST, and a glass cockpit. It can be armed with PL-12 and PL-8 AAMs.

I wonder if they're paying all applicable licensing fees ;)
 
Why would they pay fees for the individual components they developed. They already paid for the aerodynamic "likeness" that is the single seat Su-27. So much so they even have to copy the blade RWR extensions near the engine intake even if there is nothing there.
 
Avionics poster for the J-11B. Shows cockpit with 4 MFDs, though it still uses the older HUD, the FCS, and the radar among other things.

Yeah that's supposed to be where the pylon is.

It would be kind of strange if they "decommissioned" that pylon for putting those "eyes" there.

Trying to look for similar "eyes" on the J-10.


--- Looking closer under magnification, its too big to be the same thing now.
 
Perhaps the RWR fairings on the intakes are not empty afterall? Would be a sensible location too.
 
Mightn't the 'MAWS' be laser warning receivers? Seems a strange place to put IR/UV sensors, right next to the jetpipes.
 
I think its just strictly optical. The devices look like they got wide angle lenses.

Since one set is placed near the rear RWRs, the other set may also be placed near the front RWRs mounted in the blades near the engine intake.
 
Some latest pics from the PLA 80th Anniversary exhibition. Looks like the plane is in serial production. Note they got two seaters too.

A further improved variant of J-11B in the same class of American F/A-18E has been under development at 601/SAC as J-11D. It features a new AESA radar and FBW systems which are thought to be based those of J-16. New generation of AAMs can be carried including PL-10 and PL-15. More composite material was used in its wing and tail sections. It might also have a RAM coating in order to reduce the RCS but this has not been confirmed. The AESA radar was speculated to have been developed by the 14th Institute and was tested onboard a J-11B radar testbed in 2014. The first J-11D prototype (D1101) took off successfully from the SAC airfield on April 29, 2015, powered by two WS-10A engines. Its forward IRST/LR appears to have been offset to the starboard side of the windshield, suggesting an IFR probe was installed on the port side, an arrangement similar to that of J-15. It is possible the earlier J-11Bs could be upgraded to the D standard in the future.

Amazing, looking at the radome.. Slanted bulkhead. Only make sense with solid state ESA radar installation.
