more successful US vtol projects

i have been looking at a lot of old US vtol project that had promises but it got cancelled and it got me thinking.
what would happend if some of those projets succeed, and what would happenend if thay did .

At least replaces the Harrier, which entered service in 1971 in the US inventory ?
Otherwise, I always really liked the Convair 200 and its developments (>1973) and I would have liked to know what it would have been capable of achieving in reality.

There were STOVL, CTOL, and CV versions.

that got me thinking that if the convair 200 was picked and put in to service think CTOL version of it might take the f18 hornet place
