The US-UK Fighter in RAF colours. In Keymags forum this aircraft was matched with its BAe Kingston number. A render was also available by year 2000 in the net but I can't find it. I think it was from a British artist.

In original paper written "McDonnell Model VT102-6-6A" and so on for VT107

Hi,

Old two projects from 1980s,

McDonnell Douglas AV-8E was improved AV-8B with more powerful 23.500 1b
Pegasus 11F-35 and other improvements such as LERX (leading-edge root
extensions) and AV-8SX supersonic demenstrator proposed by McDonnell Douglas
and BAe with RR/PWA propulsion sponsorship, supersonic wing, longer fuselage,
33430 1b pegasus 11F-35PCB.

Notes that they didn't mention with AV-8SX if it had a canard, that means it
was not McDonnell Model-279.

"..or the USAF should have purchased the French Breguet 941."

The US even could have stayed with "buy american", if McDonnel Douglas had
proceeded with the MDD 210G, an enlarged derivative of the Br.941S !
(from Air et Cosmos, November 1968)

According to Science&Vie H.S Aviation 1999, a 150m-long landing was obtaine using a Br.941 prototype. It also landed in a car park.
Consideration was aparently given to use Br.941 on the COD role onboard Foch and Clemenceau carriers.
- not only C-130 can land on carriers!- :p

... and the Br.941 was just the beginning of a series of designs,
e.g. the 945 was a dedicated tactical transport :

Greetings All -

Found this bit of artwork on a McDonnell Douglas design in the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum archives. No additional info with it so any leads to a Model # would be appreciated!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

I've seen the artwork before but never with a model number unfortunately.

It was featured in Naval Aviation News Sept 1978 as "McDonnell Douglas VSTOL Type B".

Man, they had some good stuff in California in those days. That thing is the aerospace equivalent of this:

That is, I believe, one of the VTOL DC-9 derivatives studied in the late 60's/early 70's.

Interesting. I never realized the McDonnell Model 253 studies had gone that far.

Seems like everyone in the 1970s considered to modify the North American T-39 Sabreliner into a V/STOL aircraft...

From the same report as the V/STOL F-101:

Well, of course! NASA specified a Sabreliner conversion as an element in the study.

I am sure we have had this McDonnell supersonic V/STOL fighter project on the forum before but I can't seem to find it... Can anyone point me to it or at least identify it? Thanks!

Hello,

This is in responce to the first post by pometablava on this thread .

The concept is the Kingston P.1228. I attached some pictures of the model that could not be found. I was searching the company archives (AirBoss) the other day and ran across the pictures. I know there are some far superior rendering in the archive, I just need to find them.

That design is not from Kingston - it was a Rolls-Royce artist's impression that Mason wrongly attributed to them. It was in no way a 'design' by any aircraft company.

The BAe Kingston P.1228 was a conventional looking four-poster, aft tail project from 1985.

Recently bought this photo print (wish it was the original art!) at an estate sale here in St. Louis. Estate was apparently a retired McAir photographer.

Enjoy the Day! Mark
