It looks the Japonais SST's layout never be determined.
I didn't see anything differet from early boeing SST.

This Japanese design, is it manned or unmanned? I know the drone they're using to test the plane's flying characteristics in real conditions is obviously (by definition a drone is unmanned), but would the production designs?

Video by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) showing its planned Silent Supersonic Technology Demonstration (S3TD - also known as S-Cubed). The 13.3m-long, 4,000kg unmanned demonstrator is planed to fly in 2012-13, taking off from a runway, accelerating to beyond Mach 1.4 to measure sonic boom, then returning to a runway landing.

This is not 'NAL', neither 'hypersonic'
This is JAXA 10% scale model of the NEXST - National Experimental Supersonic Transport, launched by rocket.

The Yomiuri Shimbun

The prototype of a supersonic airplane, which can travel very quietly at speeds that exceed that of sound, is unveiled to the media in Utsunomiya on Thursday. Developer Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency will conduct a test flight using the model in August in Sweden to study its noise reduction effects. The unmanned plane, produced at Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.'s plant in the city, is about eight meters long and weighs about one ton. If a passenger jet for up to 50 people is built with the same technology used in this supersonic plane, noise could be reduced to about one-fourth of levels generated by the Concorde, a defunct supersonic commercial jet for 100 people that was built jointly by manufacturers in Britain and France.

You can see Fugaku or Z-plane picture in the last part of this movie. ;D

Thanks a lot for all this material, blackkite.

It's really refreshing to see that some aeronautical designers can still come up with original aircraft designs in the 2010s... The JAXA SST definitely looks like nothing else before it!

Lager images. Enjoy!

MISORA and biplane SSBJ image.(Too innocent image) ;D
Sonic boom is represented by the sum of the lift boom depends on the lift required to fly, and volume boom depends on the volume of the aircraft. In the case of supersonic biplane, lift boom become 0 and volume boom become 2 / 3 compared with normal shape supersonic aircraft. Applying the biplane wing to the low boom theory is Japanese original idea.
