This is exactly the idea was proposing a few posts ago. Makes more sense than it first appears. (except its not a fan but a compressor)

RR calls it a LiftFan.

But yes, I think if there's a burner under the thing it should be called a compressor.

The flip side of that is now you have a hot-gas pillar up by your inlets. And with all the comments in JSF/Harrier threads about hot gas ingestion suggest that is a really bad thing.
