What the hell is a meso and bathy-submarine? I presume bathy would had connection with the bathysphere the deep diving research submersibles so likely a deep diving submarine? But what about the Meso Sub???

I think "meso sub" means "mesopelagic-capable" submarine. I.e. capable of diving down to 1000 meters, into mesopelagic (twilight) zone.

And "bathy sub" probably means "bathypelagic-capable", i.e. capable of diving deeper than 1000 meters.
