Friedman's book didn't mention anything about flight deck, but that FY 1968 CVS was supposed to operate the F-4 Phantom II for air defence.

Yes. A Midway is the largest ship you can build without making the strength deck the flight deck.

Yes. A Midway is the largest ship you can build without making the strength deck the flight deck.

There are ways around it but they are not really practical.

But looking at the cross section, with the flight deck as the heaviest single deck, shows the flight deck would be the strength deck indeed
