Army Equipment Modernization Strategy

This could be well a disaster in the making.
Budget austerity, plus surplus operational capacity still proving useful.

Now what would be a move is to open new Abrams production line and subcontractors, and start iterating upon there new derivatives, IFV, ARV, CEV, etc. Like what was planned for the original production run before getting slashed in the guts.

..appears the US Army is still a bit conservative on the drone numbers & drone capabilities. Maybe separate drone units at the Bm & below r still being contemplated. These drone numbers would be expended in seconds not minutes if peer competition or 6he current front were confronted.

We are still the Model A stage of drone development.
The problem w the toilet paper is that four rotars is extremely inefficient means of flying. There are too many components, too much craft and weight. One motor or engine w light efficient control surfaces, which also actually assists in aerodynamically flying, not just beating the air into submission like a quadcopter does, is a start. Your craft will then get you 20km & alot more.

One way attack drones expended at up 70 per vehicle when ur plt has only 7 at best is not operationally effective. Any resupply is always questionable. You need a fuel powered craft which returns 24/7 for reload & subsequent bombardments lasting hours into days. Munitions should not be rare expensive boutique contraptions but hand grenades. & better yet fired 40mms.
Your Plts will be operatioally ineffective if ur Plt drone tm's drones will be expended in 1.5 minutes. That is what electric quadcopters carrying boutique muntions gets ya.

Dependence on batteries vs readily available fuel is dangerous as JRTC OPFOR folks can attest to. Their folks have spoken about RISTA being low duration as accompaning battery sets provide only meager actual flying time before a new battery set altogether is required. This expenditure occurs in less than .5 a day.

So maybe Plts need Wpns Sections w/ LWMMGs ie .338 LM & 40mm GLs.
Not sure about the 40mm, but I do expect that the M240 will get replaced by a .338 (likely Norma Mag, not Lapua, BTW).

The SAWs get replaced with the M250 6.8x51, so platoon Weapons Squad can get 338MGs portable with 40mm AutoGLs on their transport.

I'd also want to trade the vehicle-mounted MGs up to .338 instead of 7.62.

The handheld HK 40mm ranges nearly 900m, (mortar like range almost). Never mind the Army can not be counted on.

SAWs are scheduled for a 6.8 replace..no news there. 7.62 should be gone if science is to be believed. Conventional Army should commit to the LMagnums etc as I stated, but yet no..

Mult Domain Effects Sections r trending to replace wpns sections. The current front displays alot more tm/ section modularity needs a look.

Too difficult for the rigid & cheap Army.to ever get their mind around. Modernized RPGs, both 40mm, & 30mm GLs, single tubed hydra un/guided RLs, return of M-202A1 launcher, mixes of .338s + 7.62mm MGs, 60mm (I)mortars @ the Plt level.

Instead, the Army & Marines focuse on 'one shot wonder' loitering munitions.

After climbing the mountain w/the loiter munition, the carrying soldier is exhausted He was unable to carry any other equipment he could have used up there. Then the loitering munition misses the target. maybe telling the launching soldier it missed, maybe not. Onwards. and forward w/ the stupidity. MOTTO, "it will be done" no it will congressionally captured & dumb.

According to one Ukrainian user, a certain US loitering munition had a penchant for "controlled flight into terrain' well before striking the target. Hey, I got an idea, let's spend nearly $200m more & stick our troops w this turd. In fact. it is so f' d up lets change the name and add vehicle launch to the portfolio.

See above updated.

Mk19/HK GMG is heavy, and so is their ammo. Unlikely for them to be used dismounted. Not impossible, but unlikely.

It's why I said the autoGL would be the pintle mount for Weapons Squad's transport. (It usually is already, BTW)

Not sure about both 40mm low-velocity or medium-velocity grenades and 25-30mm HV. Yes, indirect fire (40mm LV/MV or 50-60mm mortar) is useful.

They do have their uses, but the dude carrying the Javelin/Loitering Munition needs a 5lb carbine. Not a 9lb M4.

Am not referring to the GMG. Great crew served wpn though. GD Stryker. Is better IMHO. H& K 40mm PGS contender.
An (I) mortar is very light w only a 1.2km rng so would not replace regular 60mm mortars @ the company levei.

Loitering armed uas should have genuine endurance. It needs to engage, return & reload, repeat to make the trip up the mountain worth it.

The Mk47 autoGL is 20.5kg with optic, not counting the 15kg tripod. And not counting ammunition.

Are you talking about a single shot GL, M203/M320 style?

If you've got a 40mm underbarrel GL do you need a baby mortar? (Replace the 40x46LV grenade with a 40x51MV or even 40x53HV for range.)

If it can loiter for hours, you launch it from the truck at the foot of the mountain while the squaddies climb it.

..was never talking about crew served. That has arrived left field. As stated precision grenadier system(pgs) multiple shot competitor from H& K. Don't like doing peeps home work.

Infantry squads are transmutating to
long range bomber drone crews on the current front, but proximity & high ground always matter as do 40mm grenades shot out of a single shot barrel mounted on/in a drone.

Thinking the US Army ought to get the exact robotics tasks down before grandoise c2 concepts. humanoid robotics tasks need development first then how vehicles augment them. Ukraine is ahead for sure, but even they are barely looking in the right first direction which is humanoids and or vehicles w actuated arms/manipulators.

If there was ever a screaming call for time out. This is an asinine strategy. Contractor wet dream of stuck on stupid.
Attritiable finally showing its colors. Unsustainable, unreasonable ultimately unstable thinking. Dismounts carrying clouds of crap quads. Who thinks this stuff up?

IDK how anyone intends to keep an airborne unit supplied with seemingly endless numbers of small cheap drones the colonel would like to have.
