A smaller calibre is a possibility as well, 9,2", 8" or 7,2" but I opt for 9,2" and 10"

A problem might have been that the turret ring would have been too much stressed (also consider the lever for rotating) in a full low elevation salvo.
Additionally, the interaction between the projectiles in a salvo might have caused excessive dispersion. This was a problem with twin and triple turrets that didn't have enough spacing between the guns given their calibre's muzzle blast power.
