Ukraine creates its first ballistic missile – Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that Ukraine keeps developing its defence industrial base and has created its first ballistic missile.www.pravda.com.ua
Zelenskyy during a press conference at the Forum of State Institutions Leadership on 27 August
"What developments does Ukraine have? Well, I thought it’s too early to speak about it but…The first Ukrainian ballistic missile has been successfully tested. I congratulate our defence industrial base on this."
First succesful test of a ukrainian-made ballistic missile, Sapsan?
It will be interesting to see which requirements and technical choices have been made or changed over the past years.
In its export version, the Hrim-2 can target stationary individual and group targets at distances ranging from 50 to 280 km. However, for Ukrainian military needs, the system's range has been extended to 700 km, significantly enhancing its previous range of 450 to 500 km.
Would fit Sapsan. I would really be interrested to know how far they got before the war and are now. How good is the production capability and if it may make even more sense to let it be produced outside of ukraine and more but i don't hope for an answerThis suggests Ukraine's new ballistic missile can reach St.Petersburg too, which implies ~1,000km range (first 10s).

A new trouble is brewing for President Putin and Kremlin. An indigenous ballistic missile that can hit key Russian cities is taking shape in Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced at a press conference that Ukraine has tried out its first ballistic missile manufactured by the country’s defense industry.
Zelensky said during the Ukraine 2024 forum, “Perhaps it’s too early to talk about this, but I want to share this news with you. Ukraine has successfully tested its first ballistic missile,”
The president congratulated the Ukrainian defense industry on the success of the project but did not disclose any additional details about the new weapon, including what type of ballistic missile it is. As per Ukrainian media, the missile is named Hrim-2 or Thunder-2A
day earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that the country is preparing a response to Russian airstrikes, using domestically produced weapons. Umerov emphasized, “This once again proves that to achieve victory, we need long-range capabilities and the lifting of restrictions on attacks on enemy military targets,”
In this video, Defense Updates analyzes how Ukraine’s Hrim-2 ballistic missile could change the dynamics of war?
Ukrainian MP Yehor Cherniev announced that the results of Ukraine’s domestically-produced ballistic missile tests will be seen soon. He mentioned that while some issues exist with obtaining components for rockets like "Vilkha," work on operational-tactical missile systems, such as "Hrim," is progressing. Cherniev added that Ukraine's ballistic missiles have already undergone testing.
Why have they shown a picture of a Neptune though?
Yes, could be a modified version based off lessons of the war. I also think this is the kind of weapons system where they will leverage access to western components from Britain, Sweden, France, Germany. So I think some aspects of the missile system will change based off recent changes in attitudes by these countries to supporting such a system.I suppose the missile in question is the Hrim-2?
Yes they should have used a more appropriate picture. I suspect as well the Ukrainians have used it several times to attack different targets. The Iskander launcher we saw getting destroyed this week could be such an example. There were also some strikes last year on airbases and ammo depots that I suspected were hit using an unannounced ballistic missile. Why have they shown a picture of a Neptune though? Maybe it's this ballistic missile that has destroyed some Iskander launchers, to mind it's the only thing that would get there in time.
Had to look this up, interesting tech. Hopefully they get help from other western countries so they dont have to waste a lot of resources getting it accurate in real world useI wouldn't be surprised at all if the Hrim-2 uses a RADAG-style terminal homing guidance like the SS-26 Stone does.
It's been around in the West since 1983, so maybe.I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Hrim-2 uses a RADAG-style terminal homing guidance like the SS-26 Stone does.
This lines up with several other reports that the missile is now in serial production. Going to be some interesting months.
Hmm... FP-7 sounds like it could be a Vilkha-M rocket. FP-9 is likely bigger than an Hrim-2, maybe a Hrim-2 with a booster stage or a lengthened Hrim-2.
There is also a very real risk that Fire Point overstretch themselves chasing too many ambitious programs at the same time: cruise missiles and ballistic missiles and air defense. It seems relatively clear at this point that either Russia has had some amount of success in slowing down the Main military-led ballistic missile program , or the program itself is not very well managed, so a duplication of efforts is welcome. Let's see if Fire Point can financially and technically support it.
Hrim-2 is Yangel, no chance.Hmm... FP-7 sounds like it could be a Vilkha-M rocket. FP-9 is likely bigger than an Hrim-2, maybe a Hrim-2 with a booster stage or a lengthened Hrim-2.
Interesting point is that their illustration matches 48n6dm really well.

I thought the russians had bombed the heck out of them, flattening the plant ?Yuzhnoye/Pivdenne, named after its historical leader (the official name is Державне конструкторське бюро «Південне» ім. М. К. Янгеля, "State Design Bureau "Pivdenne" named after M. K. Yangel")
