Chinese Y-7 AWACS and KJ-600 AWACS

The radome appears to be about 12.2 meters in diameter.

Assuming 450 MHz frequency, it could contain some 36 elements. But should one consider E-2 like 20 degrees elevation beamwidth, it probably reduces to about 30's as each element must be about some 2-3 meters in length (endfire array).

The range is perhaps some 500-600 Km for large targets, while something like F-16 can be picked in some 200 Km's.

I scaled it based on relative size of the dongfeng truck. Where the radome seems to be twice the size of the truck. But anyway The one you provided seems better.

This could mean that it may be well not operating at UHF but in higher frequency. I would expect thicker radome tho, maybe in size of the KJ-500.
 
Its not UHF, it wouldn't make sense. It will be an AESA array, probably only 2 sided to maximise aperture size rather than 3 sided, or maybe even just a single array. (for weight and space reasons).

Most likely its KLC-7 / Silk Road Eye.

Well, should it be optimized for naval environment. UHF would make sense just as the US E-2. It could be AESA too as UHF TRM is perhaps about half wavelength in width, so still practical for airborne carriage.

If it use higher frequency (e.g L-band or S-band) Then it probably desires an all round performance as UHF may not perform as good in overland application. The array shape is according to Dafeng Cao's twitter thread apparently Janus face. Then the question would be whether both faces are radar array Or one face is the array while the others is the IFF.

If both faces are radar array, then it could perhaps indicate L-band operation as IFF mode could be part of it.

IMO these images are already available but not to the public - similar to the latest J-20A, J-10C and their new units - but due to the given internet security restrictions, no-one wants to share them yet and as full images yet.

What we see is therefore something like some sort of aircraft striptease step by step ... and I hope we will see it within the next months.

I hope we will see the KJ-600 at some point this year as well Deino.
 
It appears that their version of the E2 Hawkeye, the KJ-600 , has also appeared in flying form. In a few years, we'll be seeing this aircraft alongside the FC-31 on the decks of their carriers.

IMO the best images of the new PLAN NA carrier-borne AEW type, the KJ-600 and as it seems, the first time a bit clearer showing the grey painted aircraft.

... the question remains, were these images indeed taken this November and is it the same grey aircraft we know since October 2021?

Is it possible that KJ-600s were used for test take-offs from this concrete aircraft carrier ?
