Vought V-371 high performance interceptor, 1950

I'd say V-371, High performance Interceptor for USAF, 1950. Probably a submission to the "1954 interceptor" competition. Second possibility, V-363, a 1948 long-range escort fighter for the USAF, but much less probable.

Looking at that, you have to wonder if they later went to work for the RAE.

;D But tip positioned engines are universal.... Think of Tsybin..

Hi
not sure of the size, but it reminds me of the British 1950's Bristol 188 project.
Similar layout and wing shape.

Cheers

Said project was based on RAE studies, hence my comment.

Here is a three view (poorly scanned) from the
Vought Archives microfilm.

What was the propulsion turbine, turbine/ramjet.... appears somewhat like the B-58 engine pods?

J57-P-5

The Vought one was earlier, by a couple of years at least.

Has anyone looked in the National Archives for V-371 proposals or other reports?

I have been unable to find anything at VAHF because it appears everything was confidential
at the time that range of reports were microfilmed and they were excluded.
