Various Lockheed helicopter projects

Hello Hesham,
can you give some more information or at least the source for the CL-1079-1 ? This VTOL Electra
looks interesting !

Although it's a retractoplane concept, I don't think it is the CARR (CL-945) because it looks different, it's smaller, and the folded-back blades don't seem to be housed within the fuselage here.

It's a helicopter Stéphane; I don't like them and I don't know much about them

If it's not a CARR, then is it a pre-CARR?

Terry (Caravellarella)
They're one of the few real aircraft around. I used to tell the F-16 blow-pipe jockeys that if they really wanted to fly that they should go up to 10,000 and stop ;)

Again I wonder if modern aero engineering technology as developed by EADS (X3) would scale up satisfactorialy to make these ideas viable now without the need for an anti-torque component at the back of the aircraft. By this I mean use the wing mounted propulsion for anti-torque.

I think the X3 tech makes these aircraft types viable, since you aren't carrying extra engines and mechanically speaking you aren't necessarily getting more complex, since you basically just have one more "tail rotor,", they're just stuck to the sides instead of the tail. Also, since the wings mounting the propulsors offload the rotor, doesn't it also make for a smoother ride and I would assume a commensurate lengthening in part life? Other than the software/ FCS, which is the major enabling tech for this system, it would seem to me it's just a basic rearranging of the helo components to get better performance than a conventional configuration.

CL-879 and CL-1026.

Great find Skyblazer. I always liked this Lockheed high speed transports. Do you have an exact timeframe the CL-879 was studied?

For CL-879, most probably 1964, and for the CL-1026 I'd say 1966 or about, based on the dates of other dated projects in the same model number sequence.

Lockheed factory model of an AH-56 Cheyenne rigid-rotor helicopter in a twin-engine (production?) configuration. I've also seen a couple of Cheyenne designs with underwing jet engine pods, but this one is new to me. It has traces of 4 hardpoints, but the pylons and ordnance are lost, so these are anyone's guess.

I want to add a Lockheed proposal for a crane helicopter. My standard question: Which model number? Further information? The only thing I know is the payload of 20 t mentioned in the caption of the artwork.
