Versatile actor. From Iceman to Jim Morrison of the Doors to Batman and many other colorful characters, he certainly was not afraid to take on unusual and interesting roles. Godspeed!
I always see him and his partner, Ashley Judd, in that movie as the most vibrant characters and best actors.
Heat had also a phenomenal reach, particularly outside of the US where thunderous armed bank robberies with heavy gunfights was somewhat seldom known at the time (but not in LA that had hundreds a year at some points! - see below).
I always also appreciate the end sequence, when De Niro is chased by Alpacino in a remake of the famous airport scene from Bullitt (nothing to do with Val Kimler, sadly).
