Interesting pics Hesham, thanks!

Please, could you post more info about that Bell GATR and the Gyro SSTOL?.

As far as the "Gyro SSTOL" (AKA "PALV", by Spark Design), it has been featured at Gizmag.com: http://www.gizmag.com/go/3323/

Hi,

True, but in the conclusion of the document they point out that the tilt-rotors to date have been optimized for other requirements than cruise efficiency. In fact MV-22 chopped several feet of rotor off the original JVX wing and rotor to make sure that it would fit on the ships. Most of the recent NASA Tilt-rotor studies optimize for cruise efficiency.

I have this document. It is actually pretty good at laying out the implications of the varied VTOL designs it describes. If I recall correctly it decides that the folding tilt rotor is optimal.

My dears and my friends,

there is many unknown projects to me in previous 16 pictures.But what
is happening to sending images ?.

everything works for me OK with images

while we're talking about the Mu-2, I have seen a brochure of an Mu-2 with twin upper surface blowing turbofan engines. must have been around the time NAL was playing with the ASKA demonstrator.

I couldn't find the Japanese brochure of the Mu-2 with twin USB engines, but i did find a three view of a four engined version a NASA engineer proposed. Don't know if it ever made it into a technical report, this was very preliminary work.

The one possibility that comes to my mind is something close to the X-50A: the lift generated by the Y wing is too low.
Lift to drag ratios for these things are also usually not too impressive, range 4-7.

Hesham, these are generic concepts (as far as I can see) from a Soviet paper translated by NASA. How is that a US VSTOL project?

My dear Overscan,

I think the Soviet aircraft were in the early sections only,and in the page 247 some western
aircraft,and here is anther table for the western aircraft in the same source,page 257;

The table given by Hesham above mentions a US program designated "D-2240". It is described as having "4 turboprop engines with propellers in circular channels". At first one would think of another derivative of the Bell X-22 (D-2127, a program which also spawned projects such as the D-2020/2022 or D-2064). But then Douglas also had a similar project on the shelf... at the same time... and their D- series was also in the 2000 range at the time... (a picture of the said project is shown below). So what do you think? Does the chart describe a Bell or a Douglas project?
