In regards to the proposed attack version of the Puma, if they kept the passenger compartment they would've truly ended up with the Western version of the Mi-24!
the first helicopter was X-330,but the second was a mystery,I know that, there was
a design preceded X-300,called X-280,it was a light helicopter, may be it was that
design,and the X-300 became SA-340 Gazelle.
Hmmm, sounds odd but looking at the proposed armed aerial support SA330 derivative looks exactly like the MI-24 Hind which flew around that time?
SLightly digressing to the realms of Hollywood - the Rambo II and III movies whereby the producers used a Petroleum Helicopters Inc. SA330 and modified with ESSS pylons to look like a Hind ......
I wonder if the swiveling tail rotor of the proposed SA.330 gunship version had anything to do with Sikorsky's Rotoprop as tested on an S-61A (for the projected S-66). The French did cooperate with Sikorsky during the development of the Super Frelon, so to me it's not beyond the realm of possibility.
Sounds plausible. Both have a five bladed tail rotor and french AAFSS uses the main rotor of the Puma.
If the co-operation between the companies was close enough...
