There were several Shinyo types built ! Are there any projects?
I have heard about a OHKA towed by a SHINYO BOAT ?

It is very interesting. But I can't find any information of Ohka in Singapore yet.
If we can find that info, the project seems to be real.

Yes, it is written as "numerous Oka 11's, in the Singapore area" in USAAF 1946 report.
But there is no information in Japanese, backing up the fact there were Oka 11 in
Singapore area (as far as I know). If someone has it, please tell me.
How Oka 11's were transported to Singapore? By which unit and to which unit?
Could USAAF team find Oka 11 in Singapore?

Hi moin1900,

It was not Shinyo, but army project.
It was "Ke souchi tsuki Nikuhaku Kogekitei"(Close attack boat with Ke-device).
The development started in the middle of 1944, and the war ended before the
first prototype was completed.

From what I can gather by digging through many Japanese websites and cross referencing what diagrams I can find, I believe I have narrowed down photos of the various Shinyo types. According to H I Sutton, there are a few other experimental types, which it seems there are next to no photos of. Justo Miranda posted diagrams of the experimental Type 2, 6 & 7 Shinyo in a earlier post, so I won't, but I do have a photo of the Type 2 at least. One thing I am not sure about is whether the IJA Type 5 motor boat is called Maru-Re or Maru-Ni, I have even seen Maru-In on some small scale modelling stores. My thought is maybe the confusion springs from that the IJN Type 5 is the Maru-Re and the IJA Type 5 is the Maru-Ni, or vice versa. I have seen both spellings switched. I have seen some websites describe the IJN Type 5 as just Shinyo too. I will say there is a distinction between IJN Type 5 and IJA Type 5... the shape of the superstructure around the pilot is different, with the former having a slight V-shape superstructure, skeletal cable struts foredeck and aft, and two sets of exhaust pipes / intake pipes, whereas the latter has a lower, less pronounced superstructure that sits further forward, without the struts and cable, and only 1 or 2 exhaust pipes--depending. Also I have yet to see a Type 5 in general with the machine gun mounted--from all the models and diagrams I can find, the IJN Type 5 seems to be the one that had a gun mount; I say that because the superstructure is the same for all depictions, and all match the IJN type. I know they were mounted with guns because I have read a few combat accounts of encountering them with machine guns. Final thing to note, I cannot find a photo of the Type 1 Mod. 4; I have seen a few diagrams floating around but that is all.

UPDATE: this link claims the photo presented is of a Type 4(?), which may be Type 1 mod. 4. Not sure about the designation. I have not yet found anything for a Type 4.

The Type 4 seems to have been another IJA project. I keep seeing "liason boat" alongside "Maru-re" and "Re-Tei" on Japanese websites when referring to the Type 4, which lends me to think the type's name was Renraku-tei. That being said, I suspect the Type 4 and Type 5, both IJA, are both interchangeably called Maru-re and Re-tai in short-hand. The later Types 6, 7 & 8 would therefore also be Renraku-tei, reflecting their design and manufacture status i.e. delegation and cooperation between various companies and the IJA.

P.S. I attached a better photo of the Type 4, technical drawings for the Type 7, as well as technical drawings of what I believe to be a variation of Type 8 based on what descriptions I can find online and US documents, as the superstructure sits too far forward to be any previous type, and it appears to have 3 engines.

If anyone can read Japanese and wants to correct me on my guess, please do! The link below details the mystery boat. There are 11 total documents that refer to it. One even points to a redesign in the superstructure perhaps.
