Greetings All -

I received a few drawings from Al Bowers at NASA of which two are of the AD-1 and the proposed JW-1 which was to be built with the same airframe.

JW stands for Julian Wolkovitch, the originator of the idea (at least in that particular form. Several similar configurations were proposed at one time or another in the past). Lots of papers available o the NASA technical server and on the Journal of aircraft (which unfortunately is not free. Curses you, darned AIAA!).
 
In 2006 I received the recollections of an engineer who had formerly worked with Scaled Composites.

Here is what he had to say about the JW-1: « At one time, Julian Wolkovitch had a contract to modify the AD-1 into a joined wing aircraft. When he died, this project died with him. »
