MiG-29 and its modifications

MiG-29KVP

''c/n 2960507687, l/n 9-18. This is the proof of concept Naval MiG-29 variant, known as the ‘Korotkii Vzlet i Posadka’ (KVP) which translates as "short take-off & landing". It had stronger undercarriage and a reinforced rear fuselage with an arrestor hook. It undertook ‘ski-jump’ trials but a larger wing area was required and the final Naval ‘K’ variant was instead derived from the MiG-29M or ‘9-15’ which had a larger, folding, wing. Previously part of the adjacent Zhukovski Engineering Academy, this development aircraft is now on display at the Central Air Force museum, Monino, Moscow Oblast, Russia.''

''MiG-29KVP (MiG-29 #918) - the aircraft was designed specifically for practicing springboard takeoff and and arrested recovery ground-based "Nitka" as part of the program for the creation of the MiG-29K shipborne fighter, based on the 7th flight prototype of the MiG-29 type 9-12.''

The wild camo or the aggressor squadron standing up?
The choice of a MiG-29 is my main concern.
More fuel to the fire.

Aggressor, yeah, it’s useful. But I think there are greater problems (Non-existing AWACS, lack of MPAs)

Cheap and readily available.

I assume that MPAs are on Indonesia's list of things to buy.
AWACS will be a bit of a challenge, the options are limited. E-7, E-2, or Saab Erieye on whatever.

Update:

Apparently ESS will become the Aggressor Training Provider.

So it’s purely for economical reasons, as it is cheaper than "build your own". So it’s a lease of their service, and they maintain their own fleet and maintenance regime, from what I understand.

Serbian AF MiG-29SM with R-27ER1 in Bulgaria while taking part in 'Shabla 2023' live firing excercise during June 2023.

After a while ,same fighter landed with that AAM which was not launched.Reason was that Bulgarians didn't launch target and they said it was because of the safety reasons.Max possible/authorised launch distance of the R-27ER/ER1 can be 130km.

I have heard the bottom of the missile the electronic tunnel being painted black is evidence of “overhaul” of the missile.

CM-400AKG Missiles Reshaping Balkan Airpower Balance.

''A newly circulated image appears to show a Serbian Air Force MiG-29SM equipped with Chinese CM-400AKG long-range air-to-surface missiles. If confirmed, the configuration could significantly expand Serbia’s standoff strike reach and alter the regional airpower balance in the Balkans. As of 9 March 2026, a single image circulating on social media has drawn sustained attention to what appears to be a Serbian Air Force MiG-29SM carrying Chinese CM-400AKG long-range air-to-surface missiles, a configuration that, if confirmed, would represent a notable evolution in Belgrade’s combat aviation posture. The relevance of this image lies not only in the possible appearance of a new munition, but in the suggestion that Serbia may be broadening the operational role of its Fulcrum fleet from air-policing and interception toward standoff precision strike. In the European context, such a development would be important because it would associate a high-speed Chinese air-launched strike weapon with a front-line fighter operated in the Balkans. At present, however, no official governmental confirmation has been issued, and the assessment therefore remains based on the available image.''

Even on 16 Feb. 2026, Commander in Chief of the Serbian Army General Milan Mojsilovich said this:

''Ističem da u vazduhoplovnoj komponenti imamo ubojna sredstva maksimalnog dometa do 300 kilometara.''

"I emphasize that in the aviation component we have weapons with a maximum range of up to 300 kilometers."
