Illustration of the Gu-VRD by Jozef was known, but many thanks
for your explanation.
It was a surprise to see that so many RD or VRD powered designs
were on the drawing boards...

Nice profile work Zizi.

The Gu-1 (Gu-37) 1940 has a look of the Me 509 about it to my eyes at least.

Cheers
Peter

As far as I know, in the Soviet Union in 1943 no turbojet engine was ready and sure even the RTD-1/VDR-2 of Lyulka, to be mounted on the Gu-VRD or any other aircraft. Lyulka's aspirations for his engine were greater in reality than his design, which was not perfected.

Is that a mockup?
Has to be, since the Gu-1 (Gu-37) was never built.

By the way, the Gu-37 designation is confusing, since there was also a Gudkov K-37 (actually the same as the Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3-37).
