In 1969 Eastern airlines asked CALAC to study a series of STOL airliners based on the L-1011. A series of iterations are known, the one illustrated is CL-1211B, probably also indicated as CL-1211-14. The CL-1211B was 158 passengers aircraft using an L-1011 fuselage shortened by 40 feet, with two RB-211 engine plus a lift fan in the middle fuselage driven by a gas generator located in the lower fuselage and fed by two lateral intakes under the wing. Performance was take off in 1500 feet and range of 750 nm. Note that the art shows a low horizontal tail configuration, but no fan in the fuselage STOl derivatives of the L-1011 had such a tail, and no three-engines STOL L-1011 had a fan in the fuselage. Probably artistic license.
