This is a pic I received from LTV Public Relations in 1990. I was in Texas at the time, when these aircraft, dubbed Gato and Macha flew overhead. My camera? in the trunk of the car, with the rest of my luggage!!

Vought Pampa 2000 - Entrenador de América

Cessna's entry is presently sitting outside at the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita, Kansas. Attractive aircraft and considering it being outside, still in good shape. More than can be said for the Beech Jet Mentor which has recently been moved to the back storage lot. Wish the Beechcraft Heritage Museum would take it.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

An the Americans Came...

IA-63's Tour in America

Two articles on the IA-63 Pampa and the JPATS program published in Aeroespacio Magazine Number 465, September - October 1988

For some reason I don't know, in Argentina they thought the best candidate for the JPATS program was the FMA IA-63 Pampa, and the local press made sure to publicize that.

I was flown in the Aermacchi MB.339 as part of Lockheed's PR campaign for JPATS. I got some stick time. Very docile for a jet, but still able to make my oversensitive stomach churn in the maneuvers!

My colleague Guy Norris was flown in the PC-9 by Beechcraft as part of their JPATS campaign. The demonstration pilot started the aircraft on the ramp then said "It's yours." He had to taxi out, take off and fly. Quite a demonstration.

I sometimes wonder if the MB339 would have faired better if it had a less fuel-hungry engine. THe Viper was a good engine, but it was a turbojet.
