Goodness gracious me. This is SWEET!!! Thanks a lot for sharing Travis, it's appreciated. Have we seen the end of the brochure? Perhaps now we could turn it into a downloadable PDF?

You're very welcome! Yes, this is the end. I want to apologize for the huge sizes, but most were actually larger when I dug them from my collection. I had to resize specially for upload here.

Thanks, Paul, for the PDF version!

WOW, thanks again, what a find. Makes one sad to see the words Hughs Tool and what could have been though. :(

Ah, but I used to have a lot more time on my hands than I have now, unfortunately. The Sikorsky plan was done back in 2012.
Nowadays all the spare time I have goes into my new website, which I have been preparing for several months now...
So, no, I won't be able to "collect the pieces" for the time being, sorry. Maybe someone else can?

OK my dear Skyblazer,

no problem,maybe someone can help.

Hi RAP,

looks like Hughes H-350.

Thanks for this picture. Neat stop-rotor concept.
On the view of the back side, there is a scribbling that looks like "CH-1454". Any idea what it means?
Do we know any designation for this Hughes concept, other than Heliplane?

Big surprise,

this hot-cycle rotor helicopter was called Hughes Model H-356.

Good Day All -

I bought on EPay the "Proceedings of the 1st National V/STOL Aircraft Symposium" November 3-4, 1965 at Wright-Patterson AFB. One of the subjects was Hughes Hot Cycle design applied to the stopped rotor/wing concept. A few drawings attached. For the drawing of the rotor model components, Hughes looked at the hub being triangular, circular and trisector plus different airfoil shapes so each hub shape is a standalone.

It was always a mystery to me what kind of seals they were using to prevent gas leakage.

It was always a mystery to me what kind of seals they were using to prevent gas leakage.
It probably wasn't a great challenge, Fairey had faced the same problem years before on the Rotodyne and apparently found a solution. Sealing a pressure vessel around a rotating shaft had been done for decades on steam turbine installations with labyrinth seals - I'd guess something similar was used for hot-cycle rotor systems.

Yeah, but not at 1500 degrees.

Yeah, but not at 1500 degrees.
Superheated steam can get pretty hot - 1000 degree F or so in a 1200 PsiG plant - and I don't know of any temperature limitation on labyrinth seals other than that of the material they're constructed of.

Great stuff Ray. Thank You and welcome aboard.

Pretty sure NASA contemplated a design based on the Hughes concept in the early 90's using a large circular hub fairing and short large chord blades. Think it went under the title of M85 due to cruise mach goal of 0.85.

Hi,

here is a Hughes hot-cycle Project, but with main difference from anther artist drawings, the engines were mounted in each side of rear fuselage ?.
