HM-45 tank.

It was a deep modernisation of the T-54 and T-55 tanks proposed by the Polish industry in the second half of the 1970s - comparable to the PT-91 (compared to the T-72) in terms of the scope of changes.

It was abandoned by the Ministry of National Defence in favour of the USSR T-55AM.

For the HM-45 tank, arms industry proposed:
- SKO Merida (fire control system - purposefully designed for HM-45) together with passive night vision
- the STP-2 cannon stabilisation system
- electric turret drives
- new suspension system
- new fuel system

After being rejected by the Ministry of Defence, the HM-45 was offered to India and Egypt
During field trials in Egypt, the HM-45 had shown to be more mobile than its rival the USSR T-55AM.
Its modified fuel system held 600 litres more fuel than the USSR T-55AM.
Thanks to the changes in the suspension, the HM-45 achieved better results in shooting ranges.

After the field tests, at the request of the Egyptian side. Works on new additional armor was started. These works were abandoned in 1989. in favour of the T-55AM tank from USSR.

Some of the Polish technical solutions designed for the HM-45 were later copied in Merida modernization packages.
