The introduction of the Airbus Helicopters H145M LUH SAR into the Bundeswehr to replace the venerable legacy Bell Dornier UH-1D SAR in the Heeresflieger over the last couple of years, it is auf wiedersehn.

If it was not for Covid, last year I would have gone back to Aero Friedrichshafen to see the Goodbye Huey UH-1D specially painted up, as it was flying around the country for different events. Thankfully over the years at ILA Berlin I have seen the Heresflieger UH-1D perform or on static. If anyoen remembers it was enarly a decade ago when the rationlization and re organization of the Bundeswehr rotary wing fleet meant the Luftwaffe went into the heavylift business taking the CH-53G/GA/GS from the Heeresflieger, the UH-1D Hueys, their SAR Mission and some utility was transferred straight across to the Heeresfliger leaving the army the sole Huey operator. Also Luftwaffe also gave their NH90 TTH to the army whereas the original plan was to split the NH90 between the air force and army.

Anyhow below here are my photos of Heeresflieger SAR UH-1D at ILA Berlin 2018.

cheers

Revell GmBH saw fit to commemorate the occasion with a limited edition kit of the UH-1D in the 'Goodbye, Huey' markings. The original kit was first produced in 1967, and is still being released today.
