Future soldier technology (modified thread)

New xm25 if you look at the requirements, and know the backstory, it's obvious they're floating the DOD owned xm25 tdp to multiple contractors to see who can build it cheapest or if someone can do something better fast.

The good news is that the xm25's time is more than here and the DOD owns all the IP necessary to make this essentially a cost plus job.
So... New XM25? Or refreshed MGL?

Was that the final disposition of the ATK vs. H&K lawsuit where H&K tried to invoke the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868 to
get out of executing the contract?

DOD got the full TDP outright and $600 million dollars. Thus they can now shop it to existing American manufacturers who can just build to HK spec or build something better.

Hk had to surrender all rights to the IP and turn it over.

Wonder if there's a program to counter this...

China has done human testing to create biologically enhanced super soldiers, says top U.S. official

Short Summary:

Network Centric Human supervised autonomy

Snakebots with mines and sensors
Multicopters with 1kW Laser
UGV with micromissiles/microwave/loiting munitions/direct fires/for logistics

The idea and implication of blinding lasers put on low end "swarmy" platforms have surprised me. If you think slaughterbots are bad, blindbots are much harder to deal with.

Прибор ночного видения нового поколения размером с обычные очки (naukatehnika.com)

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced the launch of a next-generation night vision program (PNV). The initiative, called Enhanced Night Vision in Eyeglass Form (ENVision), involves the creation of light night vision goggles with a wide field of view, and universal optics that will allow you to see in several ranges of the infra spectrum.

The primary goal of the program is to provide vision at night - through fog, dust, and other disturbances, as well as the possibility of thermal vision. All of these functions should be provided by the only lens that will give the device compactness. In addition, the new lens should provide a wider field of view

Thus, in modern PVV the viewing angle does not exceed 40 degrees. Also a disadvantage of devices is the high mass, due to a separate set of optics for vision in several infra-ranges. Thus, even modern monocular devices can weigh about a kilogram.

"Fighters experience significant neck strain from modern PNVs caused by the weight of optics hanging 4-5 inches away from their helmets," said Rohit Chandrasekar, program manager at DAPRA. In addition, because of the limited angle of view, PNV carriers are forced to turn their heads more often, which also leads to fatigue, because the angle of view of modern PVV does not exceed 40 degrees, which is three times less than the viewing angle of human vision, - he added

DARPA plans to circumvent this restriction with new technologies. The agency's investment over the past decade "has led to breakthroughs in the optics of planmatic wave guides, new materials, and new types of interaction between light and matter," Chandrasekar said. The ENVision project will be able to use these achievements to create PNV in a compact form factor, according to DARPA. Scientists working on the project are also exploring the possibility of directly converting infrainds into visible range photons using new materials. "This will further simplify the PNV systems, allowing you to step from the multi-stage transformation currently used to the one-step transformation process. Some of these processes even retain the momentum of photons, which, in theory, could allow for night vision without the need for any optics," Chandrasekar concluded

Ростех готовится к созданию «Сотника» (rostec.ru)

State Corporation Rostec is preparing to create a third-generation combat equipment "Sotnikov" which will be small weight and increased security thanks to the use of ultra-high-molecular polyethylene fiber. The Sotnikov equipment is being created to replace the previous generation Ratnik kit.

The Sotnikov kit is based on the use of high-strength and lightweight plastic fiber. The equipment, fitted to the figure of the fighter due to the elasticity of the material, will not constrain the movement and will allow to take additional equipment. At the same time, the class of protection "Sotnikov" from external damage will be much higher than that of predecessors. In the future, "Sotnikov" will be able not only to stop the shard, flying at a speed of up to 670 m/s, but also to extinguish the shock impulse due to the use of special amortizing tools.

According to Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov, the Sotnikov kit should be replaced by Ratnik as early as 2025. "This will be a fundamentally new equipment, which will integrate the best high-tech developments of Russian enterprises, including those in Rostec," he said.

The third-generation equipment will be a completely new development, but its creation took into account the experience gained within the framework of Ratnik OCD.

"Ratnik" was developed at the Rostec company TsNIYtochmash and passed a full range of military tests, which showed the correctness of the used technical solutions. After the tests were completed, experienced batches were sent to the troops, and in 2015 the annual serial deliveries of new equipment began.
