I saw the mockup of the Lockheed entry to replace the stinger at AUSA.
Looks like a derivative of the Javelin LWCLU but boxier, and a stinger tube (of course it's gonna be a 70mm class rocket, about the max size easily manpackable.
Didn't snap a pic though (mistake)

Raytheon saying they have completed subsystem tests on their NGSRI, Next-Generation Short-Range Interceptor, and a system flight test demonstration will take place later this year, in competition with Lockheed to replace the Stinger missile. Claiming improved target acquisition, range and lethality with its enhanced range for operation and identification of aerial targets in low visibility environments.

Are the Raytheon missile group highlighting lasers limited performance in low visibility weather/smoke and why missiles have the better operational capability ?

“The #NGSRI advanced seeker assembly demonstrated max range acquisition far exceeding Stinger in both laboratory & outdoor environments. NGSRI's flight-ready & revolutionary rocket motor demo’s the ability to extend intercept range of maneuver short-range air defense engagements”

Once again DoD/Army must rustle these programs back into a common component based modular (~70mm) missile/munition family rather than these 'government capture' babies.

I wonder if this will retain the 70mm heritage or will go to 80mm like some other MANPADS.

I'm wondering when a Stinger replacement will finally go into production as while the Stinger is a very capable, combat proven design it is, well, rather "Mature".

Casualty of the Peace Dividend.

If the Cold War had continued, Stinger likely would have been replaced in the late 1990s or early 2000s.

If they can pack a solid fuel ramjet into a Stinger-sized package (70mm tube), then it can be packed into a Sidewinder-sized package... Or into APKWS.

Funniest thing to me is that I've used that range for my (ill fated) L1 attempt.
*Ligma Nozzle* executed a perfect TLAM pitchover 50ft off the rail in the direction of CLWS while under boost and was promptly lost to the desert.
(I did not qualify)

Okay this gets interesting, MBDA has a son of Stinger VSHORAD to compliment their MISTRAL system.
But it looks so WEIRD, look at the gripstock lmaoooo

Copied Shorts' homework with the Blowpipe/Javelin and not bothered to have the forward fins fold into the body; just enlarge the launch tube diameter at the muzzle to accomodate them in a forward-folded position?

Now that I think about it since you mentioned the Blowpipe/Javelin I don't know why the FIM-43C Redeye and the follow on FIM-92 Stinger didn't use the same solution eliminating the need for folding control-fins.

Neat, the line reactivation seems to have gone well and it sounds like we should get our first looks at live-shot testing of the candidates for the next gen MANPADS.
Hopefully its more stylistically named than the Locksneed candidate, quadstar sucks.

RTX is teasing their NGRSI.
Bet they might have a mockup at AUSA next week, I'll keep an eye out for it when I go look.
No name announced yet

I really hope they come up with a better name than NGSRI or Quadstar .......

Myself included zjz. I would think that there would be dozens of potential names out there that are better than Quadstar, more thought needs to be given to names. Just look at the names given to modern Russian missiles for example.
